With this set of three, you secure three specimens at once of an extraordinary collector's coin with a very low mintage. The Gold Krugerrand is the most famous gold coin of all – and in the Reverse Proof version of the 2026 year of issue, this classic becomes a true rarity. Each of the three coins is delivered individually in a high-quality case that presents the minting in a fitting manner.
Why this Reverse Proof trilogy is so sought after
The decisive difference lies in the number. While the classic bullion Krugerrand is produced in the millions, this edition is limited to only 500 pieces. Such a mintage of only 500 pieces means noticeable scarcity – exactly the kind of very low mintage that collectors worldwide are looking for. Anyone holding three of these coins at once ties up a considerable portion of an already tiny total mintage. This limitation, combined with sustained high demand, gives rise to the particular value appreciation potential of this edition.
Three nearly identical rarities from a minting series of just 500 specimens – a collector's item that is second to none.
In the Reverse Proof minting quality, the familiar image is reversed: the raised reliefs shine with a mirror-polished finish, while the background remains velvety matte. It is the subtle inversion of the classic Proof, in which design and field appear precisely swapped. The portrait and the Springbok stand out with striking depth and contrast – every detail of this elaborate near-PP refinement comes into its own.
Design and history of the Krugerrand
On the obverse, Paul Kruger looks out in profile, President of the South African Republic from 1882 to 1902 and namesake of the coin. The reverse shows the galloping Springbok, South Africa's national animal, designed after a concept by sculptor Coert Lourens Steynberg. The name Krugerrand combines Paul Kruger with the Rand, South Africa's legal tender since 1961. Since its first minting in 1967, the Krugerrand has risen to become the best-selling gold coin in the world.
The coin is made of gold with a fineness of 916.67/1,000. The remaining share consists of copper – this gives the Krugerrand its characteristic reddish-golden shimmer and makes it robust and scratch-resistant. Each coin contains exactly one troy ounce of gold; the bundle therefore amounts to 93.3 grams of fine gold across three coins, each with a diameter of 32.60 mm.
Solid value basis and tax advantages
Gold is humanity's oldest currency and has been regarded as a proven store of value for thousands of years. This permanence forms the solid foundation underlying the collector's appeal of this edition. Beyond its numismatic character, the gold coin is valued worldwide – it has always stood for preservation of value and is equally prized as an inflation hedge as well as crisis protection.
Added to this are tangible advantages: investment gold such as the Krugerrand is exempt from VAT upon purchase, and under current law, profits from its sale are generally tax-free after a minimum holding period of one year. In this way, this Reverse Proof trilogy combines the appeal of a strictly limited collector's coin with the reliable substance of physical precious metal – a collector's piece that brings joy and can, at the same time, endure for generations.
