This gold bar combines a piece of German monetary history with the substance of a genuine precious metal investment. It is produced as a so-called minted bar: a clear, rectangular bar shape with rounded corners, yet at the same time bearing the official character of a coin. The piece is issued by the Republic of Liberia and produced in Germany by Kettner Edelmetalle. As beautiful as the design is – the focus remains on the gold it contains.
The Design: Clara Schumann and the Legendary Hundred-Mark Note
The obverse reproduces the front side of the Deutsche Bundesbank's 100 DM banknote. At the center, the finely engraved portrait of pianist and composer Clara Schumann (1819–1896) gazes at you – with an elegant hairband and drop-shaped earrings. Beside her sits the large 100 as the face value, along with an elaborately designed lyre symbol referencing her musical work. In the background, you can make out historic Leipzig buildings, her birthplace. Also included are the inscriptions "DEUTSCHE BUNDESBANK," the word "Banknote" in old German script, "HUNDERT DEUTSCHE MARK," and the serial number AA0000045A4 – exactly as on the original.
The reverse shows the counterpart of the banknote: a contemporary grand piano in front of the Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt, where Clara Schumann taught for many years. The design is complemented by the inscriptions "1/200 OZ," "25 DOLLARS," "REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA," and "9999 FINE GOLD." A detail for connoisseurs: the grand piano depicted on the historic note once had four pedals – a fondly debated detail that makes the note unmistakable to this day.
Minted Bars: Bars with the Status of a Coin
Bars that carry a coin die stamp and an embossed face value are referred to as minted bars. They are, in a sense, angular coins that at first glance resemble a classic bar. Through the embossed face value of 25 Dollars, this piece attains the status of a coin – and thus of official legal tender – in its country of issue, the Republic of Liberia. With compact dimensions of 15.00 mm x 8.50 mm, this handy minted bar sits well protected in its coin capsule.
Full-Value Investment Gold in a Small Denomination
Despite the nostalgic D-Mark design, what you acquire here is not merely a commemorative print, but full-value investment gold: minted fine gold whose value is primarily determined by the gold price. The design is the personal touch – the gold is the substance. Small-denomination coins in particular are excellent for building up physical wealth step by step. Small amounts of gold accumulate over the years into a considerable holding that remains tradable and liquid worldwide at all times.
Gold is considered humanity's oldest currency and, as a scarce commodity that cannot be arbitrarily multiplied, has outlasted all paper currencies. While central banks can print fiat money almost without limit, the supply of gold remains finite – a key reason for its long-term stability in value. Physical gold is thus a proven inflation hedge and a reliable crisis protection against political and economic uncertainties. Anyone who holds physical gold for longer than one year can, under current law, also collect any sales profit tax-free (minimum holding period of twelve months).
Give the gift of genuine investment gold – for example, for a baptism, birthday, or wedding. Instead of a fleeting present, you hand over a genuine asset of pure fine gold.
