In 1951, the first 5-DM silver eagle rolled into the wallets of the young Federal Republic of Germany. The Heiermann. Hardly any other coin embodies the spirit of the economic miracle so directly – until 1974 it remained the only silver circulation coin in the everyday life of Germans. Exactly 75 years after its debut, this icon now receives a tribute like never before: as a five-ounce heavy silver collector's piece in flawless Proof quality.
A design every collector recognizes instantly
The value side takes on the classic design of the historic model by Prof. Albert Holl: a large, smoothly polished "5", surrounded by the inscription "BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND" and "DEUTSCHE MARK" in narrow capital-letter antiqua script, below it the year of issue 2026 between two five-pointed stars as well as the mint mark "· D ·". New and exclusive is the filigree anniversary emblem within the curve of the digit – a small circle with "75 JAHRE DEUTSCHE MARK". A beaded border frames the image, just as on the original from 1951.
The reverse belongs to the eagle. Widely spread wings, powerfully stylized plumage, along with the inscriptions "FIFTY DOLLARS" and "Republic of Liberia" – as this piece is issued as an official coin of Liberia. At 65 millimeters in diameter, the silver eagle appears monumental. Details that could only be guessed at on the historic 29-millimeter coin emerge here in full relief.
Proof quality: mirror shine on 155.52 grams of fine silver
Minting in Proof requires polished dies, multiple striking passes and manual work in a cleanroom. The result: deep black-appearing mirror surfaces from which the matte reliefs seem to grow out in three dimensions. The angled view also reveals the cleanly crafted reeded edge.

Why 250 pieces make all the difference
Nearly 80 million pieces of the historic silver eagle were minted. Of this anniversary edition, only 250 pieces exist worldwide. This very low mintage meets a collecting field that has been closed since the introduction of the euro and therefore continually attracts enthusiasts. Anyone seeking D-Mark nostalgia, large format, and Proof quality in a single piece simply has few alternatives – and it is precisely this that creates the potential for value appreciation that no circulation coin holding can offer.
The Heiermann was the last silver coin in everyday German life. This new edition brings it back – fifteen times heavier and in the finest minting quality.
Silver: more than just a beautiful collector's piece
Silver has accompanied humanity as a coinage metal for millennia and remains a recognized store of value. Industrial demand from electronics, solar and medical technology meets a limited supply. Physical metal has intrinsic value, is durable, always liquid, and can be passed down through generations. After a holding period of at least one year, profits from the sale of privately held precious metal holdings in Germany are generally tax-free. Anyone additionally considering inflation hedging or crisis protection will find suitable additions in our range.
Who this piece is worth it for
For collectors of German coin history. For everyone who appreciates valuable large formats. And for anyone who wants a genuine rarity in their case, rather than merely admiring it in a catalog. Additional silver coins from our range complement this edition excellently – but with only 250 pieces available, speed will ultimately decide.
