This set brings together three specimens of a genuine rarity. As an exclusive collector's coin with a very low mintage, the Gold Krugerrand Reverse Proof 2026 appeals to collectors and connoisseurs alike. With a mintage of only 500 pieces worldwide, each individual coin belongs to a very exclusive circle – and it is precisely this scarcity that makes the three-piece set so appealing.

Why this Reverse Proof edition is so special

The classic Krugerrand is the most traded investment gold coin in the world. In the Reverse Proof variant, this perennial favorite gets a new look: unlike the classic Proof, where the background is mirrored and the design appears matte, the Reverse Proof minting reverses this relationship. The design areas shine with a mirror finish, while the background recedes in a matte texture. The result is an exceptionally three-dimensional depiction of Paul Kruger and the Springbok. This strict limitation, combined with the sophisticated minting technique, explains why many collectors attribute particular appreciation potential to such limited years of issue.

Small denomination, big impact: three refined 1/4-ounce Krugerrands as a self-contained collector's ensemble in a case.

Design and history of the Krugerrand

The obverse depicts Paul Kruger, who was President of the South African Republic from 1883 to 1900. The reverse shows the Springbok, South Africa's national animal, designed by sculptor Coert Steynberg. The name "Krugerrand" combines Paul Kruger with the Rand, South Africa's currency. The gold coin has been minted since 1967; it was the very first modern bullion coin, opening access to physical gold for private buyers. From 1980 onward, smaller denominations such as the 1/4 ounce were introduced, which remain particularly sought after to this day.

Fineness, alloy and craftsmanship

The Krugerrand is made of gold with a fineness of 916.67/1,000, i.e. 22 karat. The remaining portion is copper – giving the coin its characteristic, warm reddish-golden coloring and making it significantly more resistant to scratches and abrasion than pure fine gold. Each of the three 1/4-ounce coins measures 22.00 mm in diameter and contains 7.78 g of fine gold each, totaling 23.34 g of pure gold.

Gold – proven value preservation for thousands of years

Gold is the oldest currency in the world and has been a reliable store of value for over 6,000 years – it has never had a value of zero. Besides its collector's appeal, investors value physical gold for its value preservation. As a globally recognized precious metal, it also serves as an inflation hedge and for crisis protection. This set thus combines the joy of a genuine rarity with the proven properties of the precious metal.

Tax advantages

As investment gold, the Krugerrand is exempt from VAT. If the gold coin is resold after a holding period of at least one year, the capital gain is generally tax-free under current law. For a binding assessment of your personal situation, we recommend consulting a tax advisor.
