The Gold Krugerrand is the world's most famous bullion coin – and in the Proof finish, this robust classic becomes a fine collector's piece. This investor package bundles ten specimens of the 1/4 oz edition from the 2026 minting year. The decisive figure is what comes after: only 2,000 pieces of this proof variant will be issued worldwide. Whoever holds all ten coins secures a noticeable share of an already scarce minting – an argument that true collectors immediately understand.
Why the Proof finish makes this coin so special
With the Proof minting quality, the blanks are polished by hand multiple times and struck with specially prepared dies. This creates the characteristic, deep black mirror-like background from which the frosted design stands out almost three-dimensionally. A detail for connoisseurs: proof Krugerrands feature 220 edge reeds, whereas the regular bullion coin has only 160. Each coin is delivered encapsulated in the case and should only be handled by the edges – this preserves its flawless condition for decades. It is precisely this elaborate production, combined with the strict limitation, that makes this edition a sought-after rarity.
Design, name and history
On the obverse, Paul Kruger looks to the side, who as President of the South African Republic guided the fate of the country in the late 19th century. The reverse shows the springbok, South Africa's national animal, in its typical leap – a design by sculptor Coert Steynberg, who has shaped the series since its inception. The name „Krugerrand“ combines Paul Kruger with the rand, South Africa's legal currency since 1961. First issued in 1967, the Krugerrand was the very first modern bullion coin; the smaller denominations such as this quarter ounce were added in 1980. The gold coin is manufactured by the South African Mint in close cooperation with the world-renowned Rand Refinery.
Fineness, weight and craftsmanship
The Krugerrand is made of gold with a fineness of 916.67/1,000, i.e. 22 carat. The remaining portion is copper – this gives the coin its warm, reddish-golden tone and also makes it more resistant to scratches than pure fine gold. Each coin has a gross weight of 8.487 g and contains exactly 1/4 ounce (approx. 7.78 g) of pure gold. For the complete bundle, this results in a fine weight of 77.8 g of gold. The diameter is 22.00 mm – compact and easy to store.
A proven store of value for humanity
Gold is regarded as the oldest currency in the world and has served as a reliable store of value for over 6,000 years. It has never had a value of zero, is exempt from VAT, and profits from sales are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year. As a scarce, globally recognised medium of exchange, it traditionally offers inflation hedge and serves many investors as crisis protection. Especially small denominations in gold and silver are particularly practical: ten individual quarter ounces can be used more flexibly than a single large piece and are readily tradable at any time.
Highest minting quality, a world-famous design and a mintage of only 2,000 pieces – this combination makes the 10-piece package one of the most exciting Krugerrand offerings of the 2026 vintage.
Who this investor package is suitable for
This bundle is aimed at everyone who appreciates a rare collector's coin with high collector's value while also wanting to hold physical precious metal in certified new condition. Due to the very low mintage, the value appreciation potential of this edition is remarkable. Those able to purchase ten specimens at once benefit from the complete collection in the elegant case – ideal for keeping, gifting, or passing on as a tangible asset across generations.
