1/10 Ounce Silver Incuse Indian – American Coin History in Pure Fine Silver

There are silver products you buy. And there are those you want to own. The 1/10 ounce silver Incuse Indian undoubtedly belongs to the second category. This silver medal struck by the Golden State Mint combines one of the most iconic coin designs in American numismatics with the highest silver purity – in a handy, affordable format.

What makes this strike so special? The so-called incuse technique. While conventional silver coins feature designs that rise in relief from the surface, here they are recessed into it. A artistic technique that caused a sensation in the early 20th century – and has lost none of its fascination to this day.

A Design with History: The Indian Head Template

The original design was created by sculptor Bela Lyon Pratt and adorned the legendary $2.50 and $5 gold coins of the U.S. Mint between 1908 and 1929. The obverse features the striking profile portrait of a Native American chief wearing a magnificent feathered headdress. Above it sits the inscription "LIBERTY", framed by stars, while the year "1929" is struck along the lower edge. Every individual feather, every facial line – all worked into the silver surface with remarkable attention to detail.

The reverse presents a majestic bald eagle perched proudly on a branch with leaves and twigs. Its talons grip the branch firmly, the plumage finely chased – from the sweeping wings to the tail feathers. The eagle is flanked by the Latin words "E PLURIBUS UNUM" on the left and "IN GOD WE TRUST" on the right. Along the upper edge runs the maker's designation "GOLDEN • STATE • MINT".

The incuse design of the Indian Head series is considered one of the most artistically significant coin designs in American history – a piece of cultural heritage now immortalised in pure silver.

Why 1/10 Ounce? The Strength of the Small Denomination

Not everyone wants – or needs – to acquire a full ounce at once. The 1/10 ounce denomination offers decisive advantages that experienced precious metals investors have long come to appreciate:

  1. Low entry barrier: Ideal for beginners looking to take their first step into the world of physical precious metals.
  2. Flexibility: Smaller units are easier to use as a medium of exchange in a crisis than large bars or heavy coins.
  3. Collector's joy: The Incuse Indian series exists in various weight sizes – from 1/10 oz to 5 oz. Those who start small can build an impressive collection piece by piece.
  4. Gift idea: Compact, valuable and packaged in a protective coin capsule – a gift that literally stands the test of time.

Silver as a Timeless Store of Value

Silver is far more than just a shiny metal. It is an inflation hedge that has worked for thousands of years. While paper currencies come and go, silver retains its intrinsic value – supported by ever-growing industrial demand in electronics, solar technology and medicine. The limited availability of the raw material does the rest.

And the best part: profits from the sale of silver are generally tax-free in Germany, provided you observe a holding period of at least one year. An argument that speaks for itself.

More Than an Investment – a Piece of Crisis Protection for Your Portfolio

In times of economic uncertainty and political upheaval, more and more people are seeking tangible assets. Physical silver offers exactly that: an asset you can hold in your hand. No digital entry, no promise on a screen – but 3.11 grams of pure fine silver at 999 fineness, protected in a coin capsule.

The 1/10 ounce Silver Incuse Indian uniquely combines American coin artistry with the timeless value of precious metal. Whether as an entry into silver investment, as an addition to an existing collection, or as a cross-generational store of value – this small masterpiece from the Golden State Mint deserves a place in every precious metals portfolio.
