Dusk settles over Ludwigsburg. A last red streak glows on the horizon, then the lights come on in the palace, window by window. The 1 oz Silver Baden-Württemberg by Night – Ludwigsburg Residential Palace 2026 captures exactly this moment. It belongs to the "Cities and Landscapes" series and is issued in a very low mintage, which makes collectors' hearts beat faster. Anyone who loves baroque architecture, Swabian heritage and sparkling starry skies will find a true gem here.

✔ Two sides, one night in the Württemberg Versailles

The obverse invites you onto a raised terrace. Across a brightly backlit stone balustrade, you look out over the vast courtyard of honour. The wet pavement glistens and reflects the golden-yellow light of the windows, while a fountain with a turquoise basin stands at the centre. Behind it rises the cream-coloured central building with the palace clock and a small roof turret with a greenish dome, flanked by symmetrical side wings with dark mansard roofs. On the right wing flies the black-red-gold federal flag. On the left and right, two baroque sculpture groups frame the scene, as if personally welcoming the viewer. And above it all? A deep blue night sky with a full moon, countless stars and a Milky Way in pink, magenta and violet. Along the balustrade runs the inscription "1 OZ 9999 FINE SILVER 2026" in golden letters.

The reverse shifts the perspective and shows the garden side. The long, warmly lit façade stretches across the entire width of the coin, with artfully trimmed ornamental gardens lined by lanterns in front of it. A large pool of water transforms the lights into a shimmering reflection. Above the central building flutters the black-and-gold state flag of Baden-Württemberg, with the full moon shining once again in the upper left. On the right edge is the face value "20 DOLLARS", and at the bottom centre the small, gold-coloured coat of arms of Liberia.

✔ The story behind the design

It all began with a hunting lodge. Duke Eberhard Ludwig of Württemberg, a passionate hunter, had visited Versailles in the summer of 1700 and was deeply impressed. On 7 May 1704, he laid the foundation stone for the Old Main Building with three strikes of a silver hammer. What followed was a century of building: under Eberhard Ludwig, Carl Eugen and Friedrich II, later King Friedrich I, the complex grew by 1816 into a monumental four-wing structure – featuring elements of Baroque, Rococo and Neoclassicism.

Today, the Residential Palace comprises 452 rooms, two churches, a palace theatre and the large courtyard of honour. With a length of around 200 metres and a width of 150 metres, it is one of the largest palaces in Europe. Surrounding it is the "Blühendes Barock" garden complex, which has attracted visitors from around the world since its 250th anniversary celebration in 1954.

A duke, a silver hammer and the dream of Versailles – on this coin, the legacy of Württemberg shines brighter than ever.

✔ Finishing with an eye for detail

This edition gains its magic only after minting. A specialised workshop in Germany applies the nocturnal world of colour with great precision: night blue, blazing sunset red, shimmering reflections of light on pavement and water. The partially gilded rim frames both sides like an elegant picture frame, while the reeded edge provides a pleasant feel in the hand. In Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition and safely stored in a capsule, the colour brilliance remains permanently protected.

✔ Finished rarity or classic bullion coin?

Classic silver coins such as the Maple Leaf or the Vienna Philharmonic are issued year after year in mintages of millions. Their advantage: they trade close to the pure metal value. A finished edition like this one, on the other hand, commands a collector's premium. In return, you receive craftsmanship, emotion and genuine rarity. With a mintage of only 100 pieces, only a tiny circle of collectors will hold this design in their hands. The strict limitation makes the Ludwigsburg night motif a sought-after rarity.

Exciting for series fans: within the "Baden-Württemberg by Night" series, there are other landmarks such as Heidelberg Castle, Hohenzollern Castle, Ulm Minster or Stuttgart's Schlossplatz. Together, they form a glowing panorama of the southwest.

✔ Silver as a noble foundation

The design takes centre stage. But the base metal is equally convincing:

  • Profits from the sale of physical silver are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year
  • For thousands of years, this white precious metal has served as coinage metal and is regarded as a symbol of wealth and prestige
  • Electronics, solar and medical technology ensure consistently high industrial demand
  • Silver is durable, retains its properties over generations and is ideal as an heirloom

Many buyers also value precious metal as an inflation hedge or as a building block for personal crisis protection. With this edition, however, the joy of collecting is clearly the main focus.
