When the last glow of sunset fades over Munich, Nymphenburg Palace begins to shine. This is precisely the moment captured by the 1 ounce silver Bavaria by Night – Nymphenburg Palace 2026. Warm light in the rows of windows, a fountain spraying gold, the white-and-blue diamond flag over the central building. There is hardly room for more Bavaria on 40 millimeters. The issue belongs to the "Cities and Landscapes" series and is released in a very low mintage. Anyone who loves architecture, homeland, and starry skies has found a true treasure for their own collection.
✔ Two sides, one Bavarian night tale
On the palace side, you look straight at the bright central building with its grand staircase. To the left and right, the pavilions with their red roofs connect, joined by long, illuminated galleries. In front of the palace, the fountain rises from the water basin, while two swans glide calmly along their paths. A full moon shines in the sky. The Milky Way stretches across it in violet and blue, and on the horizon, a final streak of sunset glows. Along the lower edge, the inscription "1 OZ 9999 FINE SILVER 2026" runs in golden letters.
The value side is more romantic. Two swans glide toward each other in the foreground, their necks forming a heart – a symbol of fidelity and grace, mirrored in gold-colored tones in the water. In the background rise the palace and fountain, flanked by lanterns and statues on tall pedestals. Along the lower edge, a band in the Bavarian diamond pattern curves, bearing the small, gilded coat of arms of Liberia. The face value "20 DOLLARS" runs along the right-hand edge.
✔ The story behind the design
A palace as a gift of thanks for an heir to the throne: in 1662, after ten years of marriage, the Electoral couple Ferdinand Maria and Henriette Adelaide of Savoy welcomed their long-awaited son, Max Emanuel. Two years later, in 1664, construction began west of the royal city according to plans by the Italian architect Agostino Barelli. At first, it was merely a cubic pavilion. Under Max Emanuel, from 1701 onward, the side pavilions and galleries were added, and so Nymphenburg grew into the magnificent summer residence of the Wittelsbach dynasty. On August 25, 1845, the future "Fairy Tale King" Ludwig II was even born here.
The fountain depicted on the coin also has its own history. Since 1808, the fountain in front of the palace has been fed by a pumping station built by engineer Joseph von Baader in the Johannisbrunnhaus – a piece of Bavarian engineering history that still functions to this day.
A palace built out of love, two swans forming a heart – rarely does a coin tell so much romance in such a small space.
✔ Finishing with an eye for detail
What makes this minting so special only emerges after the striking process. A specialized workshop in Germany applies the nocturnal color world to the precious metal with great precision: deep night blue, flaming sunset red, shimmering reflections of light on the water. The partially gilded edge frames the design like a picture frame. The reeded edge of the coin provides a pleasant tactile feel. In Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition and safely stored in a capsule, the brilliance of the colors remains permanently protected.
✔ Refined rarity or classic bullion coin?
Well-known silver coins such as Maple Leaf or Krugerrand are issued year after year in the millions. Their advantage: they are traded close to the pure metal value. A refined issue like this one, on the other hand, commands a collector's premium – in return, you get craftsmanship, emotional value, and genuine rarity. With a mintage of only 100 pieces, only a very small circle of collectors will ever hold this design in their hands. This consistent limitation makes the Bavaria edition a sought-after rarity that clearly stands out from mass-produced goods.
✔ Silver as a noble foundation
The fascination of this coin lives through its design. But the carrier metal also has much to offer:
- Profits from the sale of physical silver are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year
- For thousands of years, the white metal has served as a coinage metal and is regarded in many cultures as a symbol of prosperity and prestige
- Electronics, solar, and medical technology ensure consistently high industrial demand
- Silver is durable, retains its properties across generations, and is ideally suited as an heirloom
Many buyers also value precious metal as an inflation hedge or as a building block for personal crisis protection. With this issue, however, the focus is clearly on collecting.
