Three Goats, Three Finishes: The Silver Trio Lunar III 2027 with Just 1,500 Sets

  • Strictly limited: worldwide mintage of only 1,500 pieces – there will never be more
  • Rarity: extremely rare collector's coin from the Australian Lunar Series III
  • Growth potential: high value appreciation potential due to strict limitation and strong collector demand
  • Minting quality: the highest possible minting quality "Proof" (PP), complemented by a colorized and a partially gilded version
  • Investment goal: collector's item with numismatic appeal – plus 3 ounces of physical fine silver as a solid tangible asset core
  • Design: three goat generations beneath a blossoming plum tree, along with the Chinese character for goat and the inscription "GOAT 2027"
  • Material & fineness: 1 ounce each of silver at 999.9/1,000 – 93.31 g fine weight combined
  • Manufacturer: Perth Mint, one of the most renowned mints in the world
  • Country of origin: Australia

This set combines three 1-ounce coins from the Perth Mint's Lunar Series III – all three dedicated to the Year of the Goat 2027, all three made of 99.99% pure fine silver. The twist: one design, three completely different finishes. One coin shines in Proof quality, a second features fine color finishing, and the third has partial gilding. Anyone collecting Silver Lunar coins gets in one go what would otherwise only be painstakingly assembled piece by piece.

The Design: "Three Goats Bring Bliss"

The reverse depicts three generations – a fully grown animal, a younger goat and a kid – peacefully set in a mountain landscape by the water. Behind them, a blossoming plum tree unfurls, a symbol in China for purity, resilience and hope. The composition draws on the auspicious phrase "Three Goats Bring Bliss": the end of winter, the arrival of spring, a new beginning. The image was designed by Natasha Muhl; the traditional "P" mint mark of the Perth Mint sits to the left of the design. The goat is the eighth animal in the Chinese zodiac calendar and is regarded as gentle, creative and compassionate. On the obverse, the Perth Mint features the portrait of King Charles III created by Dan Thorne, flanked by the weight and fineness details as well as the face value of 1 AUD per coin – 3 AUD for the complete set.

Why the Limitation Makes the Difference

Individual Lunar issues are released in significantly higher quantities. This trio, by contrast, is limited to just 1,500 pieces – a genuine rarity in the segment of Australian silver coins. Experience shows that such sets are gradually broken up over the years, resold individually, or incorporated into collections; complete, originally packaged specimens therefore become noticeably scarcer over time. This is precisely where the appeal lies compared with classic bullion issues such as the single 1-oz Lunar coin or a Kookaburra: the trio offers less mass, but considerably more craftsmanship, finishing and rarity. To be fair, there is a downside – the collector premium is higher than that of a pure bullion coin. In return, you receive minting artistry that cannot simply be purchased again later.

Silver: A Collector's Metal with a Solid Core

For thousands of years, silver has served as coinage metal, a medium of trade, and a symbol of wealth and prestige – and it continues to be traded worldwide as a commodity today. Its industrial demand in electronics, solar and medical technology meets a naturally limited supply. Physical silver is durable, retains its properties over generations, and can always be readily resold. Many buyers value it as an inflation hedge and as crisis protection – however, with this set, the collector's value is clearly in the foreground. A tax note on the side: profits from the sale of physical silver are generally tax-free in Germany, provided the minimum holding period of one year is observed.

One design, three finishes, 1,500 sets worldwide: this Lunar III trio is minting artistry you can hold in your hand – and a tangible asset that passes down from generation to generation.

Whether as an entry point into the Lunar Series III, as an addition to an existing zodiac collection, or as an extraordinary gift for the Year of the Goat: this set is one of those issues you secure early – because the Perth Mint will not be minting any more.
