  • Crisis protection: Small bars can easily be used as a means of exchange or payment in an emergency.
  • Design: Three goats on mountain peaks, surrounded by lucky clouds and strings of coins, together with the New Year wish 三羊开泰.
  • Material & fineness: 10 g pure fine gold with 999.9/1,000 fineness, minted in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) quality.
  • Manufacturer: Argor-Heraeus, a traditional refinery from Mendrisio, founded in 1951.
  • Country of origin: Switzerland, genuine Swiss Made.

On 6 February 2027, the Year of the Goat begins according to the Chinese calendar. Argor-Heraeus dedicates a limited minted bar to it, which is far more than just a pretty collector's item. Whoever holds it in their hand owns ten grams of Swiss fine gold, an individual serial number, and a piece of thousand-year-old symbolism. And the mintage? Exactly 18,888 pieces per weight, worldwide.

A Bar with a Message: The Design in Detail

On the obverse, a stately goat with mighty curved horns sits enthroned on a mountain peak. Below, to the left and right, stand two smaller goats. All three carry a string of traditional Chinese cash coins in their mouths, while lucky clouds wind around the mountain landscape. A classic Chinese meander border frames the scene. Vertically along the left edge are the characters 三羊开泰.

三羊开泰 (sān yáng kāi tài): "Three goats herald prosperity."

Behind this saying lies a subtle play on words. The Chinese word for goat (羊, yáng) sounds exactly like "Yang" (阳), the principle of light, sun, and springtime life energy. The older expression 三阳开泰 stands for renewal and an auspicious new beginning. That is why the bar shows exactly three goats. The mintage is no coincidence either, as the number eight is considered a number of wealth in China.

The goat itself is the eighth sign in the twelve-year zodiac cycle. It stands for gentleness, kindness, creativity, and perseverance. According to Chinese tradition, 2027 is the Year of the Fire Goat. Anyone born in 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, or 2015 receives a very personal gift with this bar.

The reverse shows the classic Argor-Heraeus design: the round AH logo of Argor-Heraeus SA, the inscriptions "Switzerland", "10g", "Fine Gold" and "999.9", the "Melter Assayer" stamp, as well as the individual serial number.

An Inflation Hedge You Can Hold in Your Hand

Paper money loses purchasing power year after year. Central banks can multiply it at will, but gold cannot be multiplied. The supply of the yellow metal is naturally limited, and it is precisely this scarcity that has made it a stable store of value for over 6,000 years. Even in ancient Egypt, gold served as a benchmark in trade. Later it flowed along the Silk Road, and in the 19th and 20th centuries it backed entire currencies under the gold standard. Gold is the world's oldest currency and has outlasted countless paper currencies. It has never had a value of zero, because it possesses an inherent, intrinsic value.

It is remarkable who holds the largest gold reserves today: the central banks themselves. They rely on the metal as a reserve. This clearly shows that they do not rely solely on their own fiat money. Not without reason is gold also called "God's money".

Why exactly 10 grams? This denomination is an ideal middle ground. It is compact enough to sell only part of one's holdings if needed, yet still offers noticeably more metal than a 1- or 5-gram bar. Gold is recognized worldwide, highly liquid, and can be converted into cash at any time.

Bar or Coin? Comparison with Gold Lunar

For the Year of the Goat, the popular Gold Lunar gold coins from the Perth Mint in Australia, Australian Lunar III series, are also available. Both variants consist of 999.9 gold and reference the Chinese zodiac. Nevertheless, they differ.

  • Gold coin: It is legal tender in Australia and carries a symbolic face value. For the ounce, the mintage is limited, while the smaller weights have no fixed upper limit.
  • Argor-Heraeus bar: Each weight is limited to 18,888 pieces. In addition, there is a certificate with a serial number and a particularly detailed rectangular design.
  • In common: Both are considered investment gold. Design products carry a slightly higher premium than plain standard bars, but offer additional collector appeal in return.

Would you like a strictly limited edition in a handy size? Then the bar is a perfect fit. Can't decide? Then combine the bar and coin into your personal goat set.

Swiss Precision from Ticino

The company was founded in 1951 as Argor SA in Chiasso. Today, Argor-Heraeus is headquartered in Mendrisio in the canton of Ticino and belongs to the German Heraeus Group. The refinery is among the most renowned in the world and is listed on the LBMA Good Delivery list. Bars bearing the AH logo are therefore readily accepted by dealers and investors worldwide.

The Argor-Heraeus Lunar collection follows on from its predecessor for the Year of the Horse 2026. The Year of the Goat is available in denominations of 1 g, 5 g, 10 g, 1 oz, and 50 g. Each bar comes in a sealed red blister with golden fireworks décor and the "Swiss Made" label. The card states the weight, fineness, the signature of the Certified Assayer, and the serial number. As long as the blister remains sealed, authenticity can be verified at any time. This is a real advantage for later resale.

Tax-Attractive, Permanently Valuable

As investment gold, this bar is exempt from VAT. In Germany, profits from the sale are generally tax-free after a minimum holding period of one year. Moreover, gold is practically indestructible. It does not rust, does not tarnish, and has retained its shine for thousands of years. This makes it well suited for retirement provision and for passing on wealth to children and grandchildren.

Whether as a lucky charm for Chinese New Year, as the centerpiece of a Lunar collection, or as a solid building block for your protection against inflation: the 10 g "Year of the Goat 2027" bar from Argor-Heraeus combines symbolic power and Swiss quality with the timeless value of gold.
