The Perth Mint struck the mask for the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the tomb, coloured and with the cartouche of the king. The mask is plated in 24-carat gold.

In ancient Egypt

Flesh and bones of the gods

To the Egyptians, gold and silver were more than metal: they could stand for the flesh and the bones of the gods, for the sun and the moon.

Gold was linked with the gods and the deified dead because it lasts; silver, for its pale colour, with the moon and with ritual purity.

In the land of the pharaohs

Five faces of ancient Egypt

Tutankhamun reigned for about nine years, around 1336 to 1327 BC. His tomb was found largely intact; Howard Carter numbered the 5,398 objects in it, many numbers standing for whole groups.

A text from the Book of the Dead, chapter 151, runs across the shoulders and the back of the gold mask. The coin shows it only in part: the Perth Mint redrew the hieroglyphs for the field from a photograph of the back of the mask.

Four more faces appear on the gold plates from Chad: Cleopatra, Nefertiti, Hatshepsut and Ramesses II.

Gold from Nubia and the Eastern Desert

The Egyptian word for gold, nbw, is reflected in the ancient name of Nubia.

The map of the gold mines

Around 1150 BC a map of the Wadi Hammamat was made for a quarrying expedition of Ramesses IV, one of the earliest known maps. According to the geologist James Harrell, it bears labels such as “hills where gold is found” and “hills of gold and silver”.

It is regarded as the oldest known geological map; the next known one only appears in the sources some 29 centuries later.

Silver and the moon

For long, silver was worth more than gold

Temple inscriptions from much of Egypt’s history point to this.

Giza · wonder of the ancient world

Built for eternity

The Pyramid of Khufu is the only surviving wonder of the ancient world. Its ancient name was Akhet Khufu, “the Horizon of Khufu”.

Signs of the Nile

What the signs meant

The same signs return on the pieces of this world. This is how major museums describe their meaning in ancient Egypt.

  • Uraeus

The rearing cobra with its flared hood was worn on the forehead and was regarded as a sign of protection.

  • Cartouche

In hieroglyphic inscriptions the oval surrounds the names of royal persons.

    On this piece

  • Eye of Ra

    Eye of Ra

In the myth the Eye went away and only returned once wine, music and dance had calmed it; in this way the Egyptians explained the yearly journey of the sun to the south and back.

  • Wedjat eye

    Wedjat eye

“Wedjat” means “the one that is sound”: in the myth Seth injured or stole the eye of Horus, and Thoth restored it.

  • Scarab

    Scarab

Scarabs with the name and title of their owner often served as seals: their underside was pressed into a lump of clay.

As a hieroglyph the ankh wrote the words “live” and “life”; as a symbol it stood for life.

Minting and finish

Colour and gold on proof

A proof finish sets finely frosted reliefs against a mirror-like field. The Perth Mint applies colour in layers with UV printers.

2 oz Silver Tutankhamun 2022 PP - A Masterpiece of Coin Minting

  • Minting quality: Highest possible minting quality "Proof" (PP)
  • Strictly limited: Very low mintage of only 2,000 pieces worldwide
  • Growth potential: Very high appreciation potential due to strict limitation and high demand
  • Very rare collector's coin / rarity

We are delighted to present to you the 2 oz Silver Tutankhamun 2022 PP. This exquisitely crafted coin is a tribute to the 100th anniversary of the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb and an absolute must for collectors and investors alike. Produced by the renowned Perth Mint in Australia, this coin is an outstanding example of the art of coin minting.

Exquisite Details and Minting Quality

The silver coin is distinguished by its Proof (PP) quality, the highest possible minting quality. The design features a depiction of the world-famous death mask of Tutankhamun. The selective colour application and partial gilding with 24-carat gold lend the pharaoh's mask a particularly detailed and lifelike appearance. In the background, the pictorial signs from the Book of the Dead as well as a name cartouche with the hieroglyphs "Ruler of Heliopolis" can be seen. The design also includes the inscription "TUTANKHAMUN 100 YEARS" and the "P" mint mark of the Perth Mint.

Investing in Silver

As a silver product, this coin offers numerous advantages. Silver can be used as a medium of exchange and serves as an inflation hedge. It has limited availability and a limited supply, which leads to long-term value stability. Furthermore, silver is durable and retains its physical properties over time. It offers portfolio diversification and serves as protection against political and economic crises.

A Rarity with Appreciation Potential

This coin is a true rarity. With a mintage of only 2,000 pieces worldwide, it is strictly limited. This, combined with its exceptional quality and its historical design, creates a high appreciation potential. It is an investment that is suitable for both collectors and investors.

Conclusion

Whether you are an experienced collector of silver coins, an investor looking for a secure investment, or someone who appreciates the history and aesthetics of coins, the 2 oz Silver Tutankhamun 2022 PP is an excellent choice. With its high minting quality, its historical design and its strict limitation, it is an investment that brings joy while simultaneously serving as crisis protection. Do not hesitate to add this valuable coin to your collection.
