  • Rarity: A truly rare collector's coin that you will hardly ever be offered twice
  • Minting quality: Highest possible minting quality Proof (PP), additionally finished in multiple colours
  • Investment goal: Collector's item with numismatic appeal, whose attraction is largely driven by the very low mintage
  • Design: The imperial vermilion phoenix with widely spread wings and magnificent tail plumage above blooming peonies, cloud bands and a starry sky
  • Manufacturer: Perth Mint – one of the most renowned mints in the world
  • Country of origin: Australia; issued as legal tender of Tuvalu

Some coins are bought because the numbers add up. This one is bought because it practically comes alive in the light. The Imperial Vermilion Phoenix of the 2026 vintage is the second issue in the Perth Mint's celebrated Imperial Series and succeeds the sold-out Imperial Golden Dragon. Anyone looking for a collector's coin that combines design, format and genuine scarcity will find here an exceptionally coherent overall package made of silver.

A Phoenix in Vermilion Red – The Design in Detail

The coloured obverse shows the imperial phoenix at the moment of ascension. Its wings and tail feathers are widely spread, the golden body glows out from deep red feathers, flames blaze over blooming peonies. Behind it: a dark night sky with drifting clouds and a constellation of stars. Red, gold, purple and blue meet on a 50.00 mm diameter – a canvas rarely afforded to coloured coins. The design was created by Natasha Muhl.

In Chinese mythology, the phoenix represents renewal, dignity and yang energy. It belongs to the element of fire, embodies the summer heat of the sun, the grace of the empress, a bountiful harvest and an enduring empire. Together with the dragon of the first issue, it forms the classic pair of the Mythical Creatures series – symbols that have fascinated collectors for generations. Internationally, the issue is listed under the name "Imperial Vermilion Phoenix 2026 3oz Silver Coloured Proof Coin".

Why This Rarity Electrifies Collectors

With large coloured coins, mintage is ultimately what matters. 500 pieces for the entire global market represent a genuine rarity: Australia, Asia, Europe and North America share this quantity – and a considerable portion disappears permanently into permanent collections. It is precisely this limitation that creates the value appreciation potential that connoisseurs so appreciate in strictly limited Perth Mint issues. The predecessor sold out before many collectors could even get their hands on one. By comparison, even popular series coins such as the Lunar silver coin with six-figure mintages seem almost abundantly available: they are cheaper to get into and easier to obtain, but do not offer this exclusivity. A 3 oz silver coin in colour, on the other hand, is a showpiece – large, three-dimensional, immediately striking.

Large design surface, bold colours, a three-digit mintage: this combination makes issues like the Vermilion Phoenix the anchor of a collection.

Proof – The Premier Class of Minting

The Proof quality stands for mirror-bright surfaces, clearly defined relief areas and uncompromising craftsmanship. Each coin is struck with polished dies and multiple striking processes, then individually inspected. For this reason, only handle the piece by the edge or in its capsule – this keeps the sensitive mirrored surface flawless for decades.

Silver: A Collector's Metal with a Hard Core

Silver has been a coinage metal, a store of value and a symbol of wealth and prestige for thousands of years. Unlike fiat money, it has intrinsic value: electronics, solar and medical technology consistently demand it, while supply remains geologically limited. In addition, the metal is liquid worldwide, durable and retains its physical properties across generations. Anyone who collects silver coins thus combines numismatic enjoyment with a raw material that is excellently suited to passing on wealth within the family. For broad inflation hedging or targeted crisis protection, buyers usually turn to classic investment products – here, the collector's item is clearly the main focus.

By the way: profits from the sale of physical silver coins are generally tax-free for private individuals in Germany, provided at least one year has passed between purchase and sale. A point that carries considerable weight for collector's items held over the long term.

Who the Vermilion Phoenix Is Worth It For

Do you collect mythical creatures, mythology or Lunar designs? Then this issue fills a gap. Are you looking for a gift with substance? The case makes an impression, and the numbered certificate builds trust. And if the Golden Dragon is already in your collection, there is no way around the second issue of the Imperial Series. In short: three troy ounces of fine silver, a design like a painting – and a mintage that leaves no second chance.
