A Coin with History and Symbolism
The silver coin China Panda was first minted in 1983 and has since been a permanent fixture in the silver coin world. Until 1985, the Silver Panda had a fineness of .900 with a gross weight of 27 grams of silver. From 1987 to 2015, the Panda coin had a fineness of .999 and a fine weight of 31.1 grams of silver. Since 2016, the coin has appeared in a new format: grams instead of ounces. The China Panda 1 oz becomes the China Panda 30 grams.
One side of the coin features an annually changing panda design, the fineness and fine weight specification (1 Oz Ag.999), and the face value (10 Yuan). The other side displays the Temple of Heaven in Beijing along with the year of issue. The coin's edge had straight reeds from 1983 through 2001; since 2002, the reeds have been diagonal.
The Panda: A Symbol of Nature Conservation
The panda is known worldwide and is a symbol of the WWF (World Wide Fund For Nature). The original population was greatly reduced in the past due to climatic changes and human hunting. Today, significantly fewer than 2,000 Giant Pandas remain in eastern China. By purchasing a Silver China Panda coin, you not only contribute to securing your wealth, but also indirectly support the preservation of this fascinating species.
