The faces of the Crown

One face, seven decades

Mary Gillick showed Elizabeth II with a laurel wreath instead of a crown, and Jody Clark chose the diadem of her coronation in 2015: the first and the fifth of her portraits on British coins.

On the first decimal coins of 1968, Arnold Machin replaced the wreath with a diadem, a wedding present from Queen Mary. For the portrait from 1985 onwards, Raphael Maklouf first worked from photographs and was then granted two sittings. From 1998, Ian Rank-Broadley let the portrait fill the field, because the coins had become smaller.

Many commemorative pieces for the Queen come from small issuing countries in the Pacific, such as Niue, Tokelau and the Cook Islands, until 2023 with the portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley and his initials IRB.

On British coins the portrait of Charles III is by Martin Jennings; the King approved it himself. The Queen’s British coins remained valid: some 27 billion were in circulation when the first circulating coins with Charles were struck.

1536 · Hampton Court

Ten guardians on the bridge

In 1536 Henry VIII had the stone bridge over the moat at Hampton Court completed, built of brick and more than 600 tonnes of stone. On it stood ten heraldic beasts, the King’s Beasts, displaying the King’s ancestry.

In the 17th century the bridge and the beasts vanished into the moat for more than 150 years. When the excavation began in 1909, only fragments of the beasts were found; the figures guarding the entrance today are copies from the 1950s.

2 June 1953 · Westminster

Ten beasts in plaster

For the coronation of Elizabeth II, ten heraldic beasts stood outside the Abbey’s glass-fronted annexe, designed by Eric Bedford: six feet tall, made of plaster, the work of James Woodford. His model was the King’s Beasts of Hampton Court.

The ten beasts chosen were those that best showed the Queen’s ancestry, from the Lion of England and the Griffin of Edward III to the Unicorn of Scotland and the White Horse of Hanover.

Copies in Portland stone stand guard at Kew outside the Palm House, a gift in 1956; the plaster figures have belonged to Canada since 1959.

The Sovereign

A gold coin travels the world

Henry VII gave the name Sovereign to a new gold coin in 1489. In the 19th century the Sovereign was called the “chief coin of the world”, accepted even in Brazil.

The Royal Mint also struck it at branch mints, from Sydney from 1855 to Pretoria from 1923, almost 500 million pieces in all. Today the Australian Sovereign of the Perth Mint shows a new St George, drawn by Jennifer McKenna.

A historic moment, captured in the purest silver. The "Portraits of Power" coin documents one of the most significant transfers of power in British history – the transition from the longest-reigning monarch Elizabeth II to her son King Charles III. With a mintage of only 999 pieces worldwide, this coin ranks among the most sought-after collector's items of 2025.

Masterful Design Meets Historic Significance

The obverse of this exceptional silver coin features an artistic composition: the young Queen Elizabeth II in all her splendour alongside King Charles III in full uniform. Particularly impressive are the fine details of the Proof finish, which perfectly showcases every fold of the uniform and every gleam of the royal insignia.

The lower edge of the coin is adorned with the four national symbols of the United Kingdom – a detail that symbolises the unity of the British nations. The English rose, the Scottish thistle, the Welsh leek and the Irish shamrock elegantly frame the royal double portrait.

"A coin that not only documents history, but writes history itself – through its strict limitation and extraordinary design."

Investment Highlights for Discerning Collectors

What makes this rarity such an exceptional collector's item? It is the perfect combination of several factors:

  1. The extremely low mintage of only 999 specimens worldwide
  2. The historic significance of the depicted transfer of power
  3. The highest minting quality PP with mirror-polished background
  4. The use of 999 fine silver (31.1 grams of pure silver)
  5. The artistic partial gilding, which adds additional accents

Silver as a Timeless Investment

This collector's coin combines all the advantages that have made silver a coveted precious metal for centuries. As a physical tangible asset, silver offers a tangible store of value that exists independently of digital systems. Industrial demand, particularly from the electronics and solar industries, ensures continuous value stability of the precious metal.

Particularly noteworthy: profits from the sale of silver are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year. This makes high-quality collector's items such as the "Portraits of Power" an attractive addition to any collection.

Technical Perfection Down to the Finest Detail

With a diameter of 38.60 mm, the coin commands an impressive presence. The reverse features the official portrait of King Charles III, designed by renowned artist Jody Clark. All relevant details such as face value (1 Niue Dollar), year of issue 2025, weight and fineness are elegantly integrated into the design.

The coin is delivered in a high-quality case that not only provides optimal protection, but also enables the dignified presentation of this historic work of art. As part of the "British Cult" series, this coin seamlessly continues the tradition of significant royal commemorative coins.

"With only 999 specimens worldwide, this coin is not just a collector's item – it is a piece of history in your hands."

Why Now Is the Right Time

Demand for strictly limited royal commemorative coins has always been exceptionally high. With a limitation of only 999 pieces worldwide, it is foreseeable that this coin will sell out quickly. Experienced collectors know: the lower the mintage, the greater the appreciation potential.

The "Portraits of Power" coin is more than just an investment in silver – it is an emotional investment in a piece of contemporary history. It documents a turning point that will shape generations, while simultaneously offering all the advantages of a high-quality precious metals investment.

  • Perfect for collectors of royal memorabilia
