The leopard’s coat suits its life in trees, in the forest and at night. The 2025 coin shows the leopard lying on a branch, its forepaws over the edge.

The leopard

From the desert to the rainforest

  • Desert
  • Mountain forest
  • Rainforest

No other big cat is as widespread: leopards live in some 62 countries across Africa and Eurasia, in deserts, savannas, mountains and rainforests.

They prefer rocky ground with dense bush and riverine forest. The leopard climbs well, spends much of its time in trees and is mostly active at night, as a loner.

Its coat carries dark, irregular spots, the rosettes; the base colour ranges from pale yellow in warm, dry regions to reddish orange in dense forests. Instead of purring, it calls with a rough, rasping sound.

The cheetah

The only one of its genus

Its genus, Acinonyx, has no other living member today. The cheetah needs wide, open land and is mostly active by day, unlike many other cats.

Its coat carries solid, round or oval black spots from 1.9 to 3.8 centimetres; only the throat and belly stay white. The tail ends in four to six black rings.

Cheetahs do not roar; their most common call is a chirp. Females live alone, while males often join up in groups.

Why two patterns

The coat often suits where the cat lives

  • Rosettes in a leopard’s coat, detail of a coin

    Rosette

    For trees, forest and night.

  • Solid spots in a cheetah’s coat, detail of a coin

    Spot

    Black, without a ring.

A study of 35 cat species shows that whether a coat is patterned is linked to the habitat. How intricate and irregular the pattern is also relates to life in trees and to activity at night.

Over the course of evolution, such camouflage adapts comparatively quickly to a way of life. In the grey grass where cheetahs often live, their spots can take up the shadows of the blades and let the animals merge with their surroundings.

Rare coats

A black panther can be a leopard

Leopards with melanism, that is with almost black fur, are often called black panthers. Black cheetahs, by contrast, are not known.

In the rare king cheetah, the spots merge into blotches and stripes. It is not a species of its own but carries a rare variant of the gene Taqpep, which shapes the variations of the tabby pattern in domestic cats.

Young cheetahs wear a coat of their own as well: a thick, silvery grey mantle along the back, which they shed at about three months of age.

African Wildlife · Somalia

The leopard on both sides

Somalia’s coat of arms of 1956 shows a gold-framed shield held by two leopards standing on spears. So each of these coins shows the leopard on both sides: as the motif of the picture side and twice over as a supporter of the shield on the value side.

1 kg Silver Wildlife Leopard 2025 – Majestic Rarity with Only 500 Pieces Worldwide

  • Strictly limited: Only 500 pieces available worldwide
  • Growth potential: Very high appreciation potential due to extreme limited mintage
  • Rarity: Exceptionally rare collector's coin from the Wildlife series
  • Design: Highly detailed depiction of a majestic leopard
  • Manufacturer: The renowned Bavarian State Mint
  • Country of origin: Minted in Germany for the Republic of Somalia

The spectacular 1 kg silver Wildlife Leopard 2025 embodies everything that makes the heart of a passionate collector beat faster. With a mintage of only 500 pieces worldwide, this collector's coin ranks among the absolute rarities of the international coin market.

Masterful Minting Meets Strict Limited Edition

The Bavarian State Mint has created a true work of art with this issue. The impressive size of 100 mm in diameter provides an imposing stage for the intricately designed motif. Every individual hair of the leopard's coat, every muscle contour, and the piercing gaze of the big cat have been struck with the utmost precision into the purest 999.9 fine silver.

What makes this coin an extraordinary investment, however, is its strict limited mintage. While many silver coins are produced in high mintages, only 500 pieces are available worldwide here – a number that is vanishingly small given the global collector community.

The Leopard – Symbol of Strength and Elegance

The African Wildlife series has long since secured a firm place in the hearts of collectors. The leopard, as one of Africa's most fascinating predators, has been immortalised here in all its splendour. The coin depicts the majestic animal in a powerful yet elegant pose – a design that perfectly captures the wild beauty of Africa.

"The combination of artistic perfection, extreme rarity, and the timeless value of silver makes this coin a true treasure for generations."

Appreciation Potential Through Scarcity

Experienced collectors know: the lower the mintage, the higher the appreciation potential. With only 500 pieces worldwide, this Wildlife issue is predestined for positive performance. Impressive value increases have already been observed with earlier issues of comparably low mintages.

  1. The extremely limited mintage creates immediate scarcity in the market
  2. The high demand for Wildlife designs intensifies collector pressure
  3. The impressive weight of 1 kg makes the coin a substantial store of value
  4. The Brilliant Uncirculated quality guarantees the highest collector standards

Technical Perfection in Every Detail

With a fineness of 999.9/1,000, this coin represents the highest purity. The complete kilogram of fine silver is preserved in a protective coin capsule, ensuring its immaculate condition for decades to come. The face value of 2,000 Shillings of the Republic of Somalia underscores the official character of this minting.

Silver as a precious metal combines numerous advantages: it is not only a proven store of value with a millennia-old tradition, but also benefits from steadily growing industrial demand. Silver has become indispensable particularly in electronics, solar technology, and medical engineering.

A Treasure for True Connoisseurs

This rare collector's coin is aimed at connoisseurs who seek the extraordinary. It is more than just an investment – it is a work of art that combines the fascination for precious metals with a passion for exceptional designs. The fact that profits from the sale of silver are tax-free after a holding period of at least one year makes this rarity even more attractive.

Those fortunate enough to own one of the only 500 coins possess not just a kilogram of the purest silver, but a piece of numismatic history. The Wildlife Leopard 2025 is an investment in lasting values – a legacy that can be passed down from generation to generation.
