Rentenmark and Reichsmark

From the Rentenmark to the Reichsmark

In the autumn of 1923 the Rentenbank was founded. Its Rentenbank notes were issued in a new money:

“The unit of value of these Rentenbank notes is the Rentenmark, which is divided into 100 Rentenpfennig.”

Decree on the founding of the Deutsche Rentenbank, 15 October 1923

That is where the name on our strikes in the oak wreath comes from.

  1. 15 October 1923

Decree on the founding of the Rentenbank.

  2. 8 November 1923

    A decree allows coins of 1, 2, 5, 10 and 50 Rentenpfennig.

  3. 30 August 1924

The coinage act introduces the Reichsmark.

  4. October 1924

The Reichsbank issues the Reichsmark alongside the Rentenmark, one to one.

  5. June 1948

The Deutsche Mark replaces the Reichsmark.

How the mark came about: the gold of the German Empire

1/200 oz Gold Reichsmark 2026 – German monetary heritage as a physical gold investment

  • Minting quality: Highest possible finish in Proof (PP) – mirror-like background, crisply struck raised relief.
  • Strictly limited: Worldwide mintage limited to only 5,000 pieces.
  • Growth potential: The strict limitation combined with demand for small gold denominations opens up exciting appreciation potential.
  • Rarity: An extremely rare, clearly limited gold coin of the 2026 year of issue.
  • Investment character: Full-fledged investment gold – its value is based on the fine gold it contains and follows the gold price.
  • Design: Historic Reichsmark design with a majestic eagle, oak leaves and beaded rim.
  • Material / Fineness: Purest fine gold with a fineness of 999.9/1,000 (24 carat) – the highest degree of purity.
  • Manufacturer: Kettner Edelmetalle, one of Germany's largest precious metals dealers.
  • Country of origin: The official issuing country is the Republic of Liberia, with a face value of 25 dollars.

The gold coin "1 Reichsmark 2026" tells a piece of German monetary history – while carrying the substance that truly matters: pure fine gold. Small as this issue may be, its core remains what people have trusted for millennia. Anyone investing in physical gold acquires here a minted precious metal in a convenient denomination, whose value is oriented to the world market price. The nostalgic Reichsmark design is the personal touch. The real reason for buying lies in the metal.

Design: Reichsmark tradition meets eagle

The obverse places the large denomination figure "1" at the center, encircled by two symmetrically arranged oak branches. Below it appears the lettering "Reichsmark" in authentic Gothic Fraktur script, followed by the year 2026. Two crossed acorns close the wreath at the bottom edge, and a fine beaded circle frames the design. Turning the coin over reveals an eagle with a crowned head, widely spread wings and outstretched talons – strength and dignity in intricate engraving. Surrounding this, the inscriptions "1/200 OZ 9999 FINE GOLD", "25 DOLLARS" and "REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA" confirm the official specifications of this coin.

Purest fine gold in Proof quality

This gold coin is made of 999.9 fine gold, the noblest and purest form of the yellow metal. With a diameter of just 14.00 mm and a fine weight of 0.16 g, it is a true miniature work of art. The Proof (PP) minting quality creates the characteristic contrast between a deeply mirrored background and matte-glossy reliefs – every oak leaf, every feather stands out clearly despite the tiny surface. The issue is delivered protected in an elaborately designed coincard that evocatively picks up on the Reichsmark theme.

Strict limitation – rarity with a genuine gold core

With only 5,000 pieces worldwide, the 2026 Reichsmark is clearly limited. Once such a limited mintage is sold out, there is no replenishment – and scarce supply has always been a driver of precious metal value. This is exactly where the appeal of this rarity lies: it combines a manageable number of pieces with the solid foundation of fine gold. No tangible asset offers a guaranteed return promise; the appreciation potential results from scarcity, demand and the development of the gold price.

Small format, real asset value

Gold is humanity's oldest currency and a proven store of value for over 6,000 years. It has an intrinsic value, has never had a price of zero, and protects against the long-term loss of purchasing power – which is why it serves worldwide as an inflation hedge and as crisis protection. Small units like this 1/200 ounce are ideal for building up physical gold step by step: many small amounts add up over the years to a considerable fortune that can be traded worldwide at any time and easily resold. Another advantage: in Germany, profits from the sale of physical gold are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year.

Despite the historic design, what you acquire here is full-fledged investment gold – minted fine gold whose value is oriented to the gold price and endures across generations.

This makes the coin an excellent gift as well: for a birthday, christening, wedding or Christmas, you're not giving a mere token but genuine investment gold – an asset with German monetary heritage in miniature format. For investors looking to enter physical gold investment or wishing to expand their holdings with a clearly limited issue, the 2026 Reichsmark is an appealing and tangible choice.
