Two animals outside the stock exchange

Outside the Frankfurt Stock Exchange stand the bull and the bear in bronze. The sculptor Reinhard Dachlauer received the commission in 1985, for the 400th anniversary of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, which has existed since 1585.

“cast in bronze and bursting with strength, they stand as landmarks of stock trading on Frankfurt’s Börsenplatz”

Brochure by Deutsche Börse and the Stiftung Lesen foundation, 2016

The sculptures were set up on 6 October 1988 and handed over to the city council. They belong to the City of Frankfurt and are among its most popular photo motifs.

According to the brochure, merchants met in the 14th century in Bruges at the inn of the van der Beurse family to trade. Soon “going to the bourse” was synonymous with arranging deals.

The comparison with gold miners

The Bitcoin white paper, announced on 31 October 2008, compares the steady addition of new coins with gold miners:

“… analogous to gold miners expending resources to add gold to circulation. In our case, it is CPU time and electricity that is expended.”

A medal in copper

Bullion, not bits

One medal in our range bears BULLION NOT BITS above a pair of scales. Bullion means gold or silver in bars, a bit is the smallest unit of information in a computer: bars, not bits.

Or, as we put it:

Gold is the real crypto.

Crypto comes from the Greek kryptós, meaning hidden.

Bull and Bear

In Frankfurt the bull and the bear stand in bronze; on this piece they are in fine gold 999.9/1,000 that you hold in your hand.

Two landmarks of the stock exchange, struck in gold.

How much gold there is in the world

0.5g Gold "Bull and Bear" 2025 – pure fine gold with stock market iconography

  • Strictly limited: worldwide mintage of just 5,000 pieces
  • Growth opportunities: noticeable appreciation potential thanks to the limited mintage and the ongoing demand for small gold coins
  • Rarity: exclusive Kettner minting with a pronounced rarity value
  • Minting quality: the highest minting grade Proof (PP) with deep black fields and mirror-like shine
  • Material & fineness: 0.5 g fine gold, fineness 999.9/1,000 – the highest purity class
  • Design: a dynamic bull and an aggressive bear set against rising and falling stock market charts
  • Manufacturer: Kettner Edelmetalle as an exclusive edition
  • Country of origin: Germany – the official issuing country is the African Republic of Liberia (face value 25 dollars)
  • Investment character: physical investment gold, whose value follows the gold price

Substance over symbolism: at the heart of this edition is not merely a design, but real gold. 0.5 grams of fine gold with a fineness of 999.9/1,000 form the lasting value of this small yet fully-fledged gold investment. This makes the piece a fitting addition to our wide selection of gold coins and makes it an excellent entry point into building wealth with physical precious metal – step by step, without a large capital outlay. Small amounts of gold add up over the years to form a considerable fortune.

The design provides the personal touch. On one side, a powerful bull with a muscular body and distinctive horns charges forward – long the symbol of rising prices. Facing it stands the roaring bear, representing falling markets. Both animals are set against stylized price charts, bar diagrams, and a striking trend line with an arrow. The Proof minting makes the gold-shimmering reliefs stand out almost three-dimensionally against the mirrored, deep-dark surfaces – the finest minting artistry on just 14 mm in diameter, complemented by a ribbed edge design.

Bull and bear are recognized worldwide as the two symbols of the stock exchange: the bull with its magnificent horns for the bull market and rising prices, the bear for the bear market. Captured in fine gold, this contest of strength becomes a timeless store of value.

Strictly limited mintage with appreciation potential

This coin is a strictly limited rarity: only 5,000 pieces exist worldwide. Such a very low mintage is among the classic value drivers, since a scarce supply meets stable long-term demand. This is precisely what fuels the appreciation potential of this collector's coin. The value remains doubly well-founded – through the fine gold it contains on one hand, and the strict limited mintage on the other.

Why physical gold as an investment?

Gold is humanity's oldest currency and has been valued as a store of value for over 6,000 years. Its history dates back to ancient Egypt, where it served as a measure for trade. Gold possesses an inherent, intrinsic value, has never in its entire history had a price of zero, and is tradable and highly liquid worldwide. As a physical tangible asset, it traditionally serves as an inflation hedge and for crisis protection, because it remains independent of the central banks' printing press. It is no coincidence that these very central banks count among the largest gold holders in the world.

Another advantage: physical investment gold is exempt from VAT in Germany, and profits from its sale are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year. This way, you retain the full value of your fine gold – over many years and passed down through generations.

Whether for your own holdings or as a gift of genuine investment gold for a special occasion – the "Bull and Bear 2025" combines tangible fine gold with one of the most well-known motifs in the world of finance. Despite the expressive design, what you are acquiring here above all is fully-fledged, minted fine gold, whose value is based on the gold price. The 25-dollar coin of the Republic of Liberia is delivered as new merchandise in Proof condition in a thematically designed coin card.
