Small in size, impressive in presence. With the 2026 year of issue, the Mexican mint continues one of the most traditional bullion series in the world. Anyone who collects Gold Libertad coins or values them as a store of wealth will find the tenth-ounce the ideal entry point. It contains 3.11 grams of fine gold. That's all it takes to hold a piece of thousands of years of monetary history in your hands. And unlike offers with "various years of issue," here you receive exactly the current 2026 year of issue, ideal for building a complete year-of-issue collection.

A design that celebrates independence

The obverse shows the Libertad goddess of victory just as she stands high above Mexico City atop the Ángel de la Independencia. The monument was erected for the 100th anniversary of the fight for freedom against Spanish colonial rule. To this day, it remains the symbol of the capital. Victoria spreads her wings and raises the laurel wreath, while in her other hand she holds the broken chain. Behind her rise the volcanoes Iztaccíhuatl and Popocatépetl above the Mexican highlands. Around the edge are the inscriptions "1/10 ONZA," "ORO PURO," the year of issue 2026, and "LEY .999," alongside the mint mark Mo with the small o above the M.

On the reverse you see the national coat of arms. An eagle perches on a cactus, holding a writhing snake in its beak, a scene from the Aztec founding legend of Tenochtitlán. Oak and laurel branches frame the coat of arms, above which "ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS" is arranged in a semicircle. On the large Libertad ounce coin, ten historical coats of arms surround the center. The small denomination deliberately omits these, giving the design a particularly clean and clear look.

Casa de Moneda de México: almost 500 years of minting tradition

The Casa de Moneda de México was founded in 1535 by decree of Viceroy Antonio de Mendoza. It is thus the first mint in the Americas, and its silver 8-reales coins once circulated around the globe. Today, its most important client is the central bank, Banco de México. The Libertad series has existed since 1981. Since 1991, it has been struck in 999 fine gold, and that same year the 1/10 and 1/20 oz denominations were introduced. The Libertad has no face value stamped on it. Nevertheless, it is legal tender in Mexico, and its value is determined by the current daily gold price. In addition to the gold coins, the series is also issued as the Libertad in silver, which serves as gold's larger counterpart.

Why the tenth-ounce is in particularly high demand

Gold is humanity's oldest currency. For over 6,000 years, it has served as a store of value; even in ancient Egypt, it was used as a unit of measure for trade. Its value has never fallen to zero. The metal has an intrinsic value that depends on neither governments nor printing presses. Fiat money can be multiplied at will, whereas gold remains scarce. It is no coincidence that central banks are among the largest holders of gold in the world. It is not without reason that gold is called "God's money."

The 1/10 oz gold coin brings these strengths into a convenient format:

  1. Flexible: Ideal for building wealth step by step with a small budget.
  2. Divisible: In an emergency, you only sell as much as you really need. This is a clear advantage for your crisis protection.
  3. Tradeable: Known worldwide, highly liquid, and convertible back into cash at any time.
  4. Tax-attractive: As investment gold, it is exempt from VAT. Gains are tax-free after a holding period of one year.
  5. Suitable for generations: Whether for a christening, birthday, or graduation, the coin is a lasting gift and a building block for retirement planning.

Libertad, Krugerrand, or Maple Leaf? A direct comparison

Compared to other gold coins of the same size, the Libertad has its own distinct profile. The Krugerrand is made of a robust 22-karat alloy. The Maple Leaf and Vienna Philharmonic use 999.9 fine gold and are traditionally minted in very large quantities. The Libertad, by contrast, is usually issued in smaller mintages. Among collectors, it is therefore considered an insider tip, and it also features one of the most beautiful designs in the bullion market.

In fairness, this should also be mentioned: for smaller denominations, the premium per gram is somewhat higher than for the full ounce or larger gold bars. In return, you gain maximum flexibility and an officially recognized means of payment known worldwide.

Gold has been shining for thousands of years. With the 2026 year of issue, Mexico's goddess of victory carries this shine into a new generation.

Whether as a first step into the world of precious metals, as a building block of your long-term wealth protection, or as a new collector's piece: the 1/10 oz Gold Mexico Libertad 2026 combines fine gold, history, and freedom in just 16 millimeters.
