A Piece of Comic History in the Purest Silver
What makes this coin so special? It depicts the historic first Garfield comic strip from 1978 – that legendary moment when cartoonist Jon Arbuckle introduced his orange-striped cat to the world. "Our only thought is to entertain you", Jon promises in the original strip, while Garfield already expresses his characteristic first thought: "I'm hungry". This iconic scene has now been masterfully immortalised on a rectangular silver coin.
The extraordinary dimensions of 31 mm x 98 mm make this coin a true work of art. In the Proof minting quality, the 999 fine silver shines in all its glory, while the vivid colours of the original comic are brought to life through state-of-the-art printing technology.
Why This Coin Is a Must-Have for Collectors
The combination of extreme limited edition and the worldwide popularity of the design makes this coin an extraordinary collector's piece:
- First issue of an exclusive five-part series featuring Garfield's most iconic moments
- Individually numbered pieces guarantee authenticity
- Perfect symbiosis of nostalgic comic charm and fine silver
- Matte and mirror-polished accents accentuate the artistic design
- Official legal tender with a face value of 2 Niue dollars
"Silver is not just a precious metal – it is a piece of history you can hold in your hands. This Garfield coin connects two worlds: the timeless value stability of silver and the immortal popularity of a comic classic."
The Reverse: Garfield's Philosophy of Life in Silver
While the obverse depicts the historic first strip, the reverse presents Garfield's unmistakable life wisdom. "Eat. Sleep. There must be more to life, but I hope not" – this typical Garfield quote is complemented by "I'm a creature of habit – all the bad ones". The official seal of Niue confirms its status as legal tender.
Investment Highlights for Discerning Collectors
This rarity offers several advantages for collectors and silver enthusiasts alike. The New Zealand Mint, renowned for its outstanding strikes, has created a masterpiece here. With only 1,000 pieces worldwide, the appreciation potential is considerable – especially when you consider that Garfield fans around the world will covet this unique coin.
Silver itself offers additional advantages: as a physical precious metal, it retains its intrinsic value and can be sold tax-free after a holding period of one year. The high industrial demand, particularly in the electronics and solar industries, provides a solid value foundation. At the same time, the limited availability makes silver a highly sought-after collector's item.
