1 oz Silver Somalia Elephant 2026 – ANA Special Edition, Limited to 1,000 Pieces

A waterhole in the vast savannah, two elephants in the morning light, a zebra drinking – and in the upper left corner a coloured privy mark recalling North America's largest coin fair. This edition of the African Wildlife series is far more than just one ounce of silver. It is a strictly limited fair edition that appeals to investors and collectors alike.

  • Investment purpose: Bullion coin offering inflation hedge and value preservation – small units such as this one-ounce coin also serve as convenient crisis protection.
  • Design: Bull elephant with fellow elephants at a waterhole, accompanied by a zebra – enhanced by the coloured privy mark "ANA Pittsburgh 2026".
  • Material / fineness: 31.1 grams of fine silver, fineness 999.9/1,000 – highest purity level, brilliant Mint State finish (BU).
  • Manufacturer: Struck by the renowned Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt mint.
  • Country of origin: Republic of Somalia – legal tender with a face value of 100 shillings.
  • Mintage: only 1,000 pieces worldwide, year of issue 2026, delivered in a coin capsule.

The 2026 Design: Africa's Giants at the Oasis

Since 2004, the elephant motif of the series has changed every single year – which is exactly what makes the Silver Somalia Elephant so appealing to year-set collectors. The 2026 design features a calm, almost cinematic scene: a powerful bull with long tusks stands at the water's edge, a second elephant approaches across the dry plain, while in the foreground a zebra lowers its head to drink. Above it shines the sun, surrounded by the inscriptions "AFRICAN WILDLIFE" and "ELEPHANT" as well as the specification 1 oz Ag 9999. The value side displays the coat of arms of the Somali Republic: two upright leopards holding a shield bearing the five-pointed star, flanked by the year 20–26 and the denomination 100 Shillings.

The "ANA Pittsburgh 2026" Privy Mark

The real highlight sits in the upper left field. There, the coin bears a small, multi-coloured privy mark commemorating the World's Fair of Money of the American Numismatic Association, taking place in Pittsburgh from 25 to 29 August 2026. Such fair editions are traditionally issued in very small mintages – in this case, only 1,000 pieces for the entire world market. By comparison, the regular bullion version of the same year of issue is struck in a mintage well into the six figures. This exact difference explains why privy mark editions of the series have been sought after in the collector market for years.

Why This One-Ounce Silver Coin Convinces

  • Dual character: the full material value of one ounce of silver plus additional numismatic appeal due to its limited mintage.
  • German minting quality: the Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt in Munich looks back on a tradition spanning more than 850 years – sharpness and surface finish speak for themselves.
  • Globally recognised format: 38.60 mm diameter, 31.1 g gross weight – the familiar dimensions of standard ounce coins, fitting standard capsules and collector boxes.
  • Tax aspect: in Germany, profits from the sale of silver are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year.
  • Liquidity: the Somalia Elephant is internationally established and can be resold at any time.

Silver – Monetary Metal, Industrial Metal, Tangible Asset

Silver has accompanied humanity for millennia as a coinage metal and store of value. Unlike fiat money, whose purchasing power depends on trust in governments, the metal possesses intrinsic value: electronics, photovoltaics and medical technology consume it permanently, while extractable reserves remain limited. Anyone holding silver coins in their safe holds a tangible asset that, if necessary, can also be exchanged in small increments – an argument that carries more weight during times of currency uncertainty than any statistic.

Gold is humanity's oldest currency and has outlived every paper currency. Silver has always been its younger sibling – the metal of everyday trade, tangible, divisible, incorruptible.

Who This Edition Is Suited For

Collectors of the African Wildlife series can hardly pass up this coin: it fills the 2026 year-set gap and additionally brings an event privy mark that will never be repeated. Investors, in turn, gain a piece of precious metals with a clear material core that plays the same role in a portfolio as an ordinary bullion coin – only with a considerably tighter mintage. Anyone wishing to build the series along two tracks can happily combine the Silver Somalia Elephant with the gold editions of the same design year. And compared to classics such as the Krugerrand or Maple Leaf, which display the same image year after year, the Elephant scores points with its fresh design – though bullion classics offer broader liquidity when reselling. Both have their place. This special edition of 1,000 pieces, however, plays in a league of its own.
