With this issue, the Democratic Republic of the Congo launches the second season of its popular prehistoric series "Prehistoric Life". The Triceratops kicks things off – and in one of the smallest yet most exquisite formats found among gold coins: a tiny gold wafer measuring just 11 millimeters in diameter. As delicate as the format may be, the substance is just as clear – at its core lies pure fine gold, whose value is based on the gold price.

A Prehistoric Design with Character
The obverse shows the Triceratops in a powerful frontal view. Clearly visible are the two long brow horns, the shorter nose horn, and the massive neck frill that makes this herbivore so unmistakable. In the background, ferns, rocky terrain, and a pterosaur hint at the world of the late Cretaceous period. Encircling the design, the inscriptions "TRICERATOPS", "68–66 MIO YEARS BC", and the year of issue "2024" summarize the animal's history – the Triceratops lived approximately 66 to 68 million years ago in what is now North America. The reverse features the coat of arms of the Democratic Republic of the Congo with a leopard's head, an elephant tusk, and a spear, along with the motto "JUSTICE – PAIX – TRAVAIL", plus the weight and fineness "0.5 g Au 999.9" and the face value "100 Francs".
