From the rock
It belongs to the pliosaurs, the short-necked plesiosaurs.
Like all plesiosaurs, it was a marine reptile and not a dinosaur.
No human has ever seen this animal alive: the age of the dinosaurs ended 66 million years ago, and the human genus has existed for about 2.8 million years.

A predator from the depths of the Jurassic sea, captured in a mere 11.00 mm: this gold coin combines fascinating prehistoric history with the substance of genuine fine gold. The deciding factor for purchase is not the design, but the precious metal it contains – the image of the Liopleurodon is the personal touch, the fine gold is the real value. Anyone collecting small gold coins like this one builds up a real asset step by step.
Unlike some pure collector's coins, this one puts tangible investment gold front and centre. The tiny coin is not a mere souvenir but recognised, physical fine gold – tradable worldwide at any time. Its gold content can easily be converted back into euros, and it is precisely this high liquidity that makes such small gold pieces a flexible building block within a portfolio. Further euro coinages and very small weights are an ideal complement to such a position.
The design: the Liopleurodon from the Jurassic sea
The Liopleurodon belonged to the genus of pliosaurs and roamed the seas of Europe and South America during the Middle to Late Jurassic. With an average length of around twelve metres, it is considered the largest scientifically described pliosaur. A powerful jaw and dagger-like teeth: researchers regard it as an apex predator that fed mainly on larger prey such as other marine reptiles. Scientists date the first find to 1873, when Henri-Émile Sauvage discovered a single tooth near Boulogne-sur-Mer. The inscription "166 – 163.5 MIO YEARS BC" places the animal in time, while the value side bears the coat of arms of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the weight, fineness and the face value of 100 Francs.
Why small gold coins make a convincing investment
Gold is the oldest currency in the world and has been a proven store of value for over 6,000 years – a scarce commodity with intrinsic value that has never lost its lustre. The very low mintage of only 2,000 pieces in particular gives this issue an exclusivity that can further fuel demand for completely sold-out years. As a tangible precious metal, physical gold also serves as an inflation hedge and proves its worth as crisis protection against currency risks.
Despite the fascinating design, what you are acquiring here is full-fledged investment gold – minted fine gold in Proof quality, whose value is based on the gold price.
This also makes the coin an excellent gift: anyone presenting genuine investment gold for a christening, a wedding or a birthday is not handing over a perishable object, but a real asset. Small amounts of gold add up over the years to a sizeable holding – and can be passed down through generations. The coin is delivered protected in a coin capsule, in brand-new condition.
