Gabon 2025 · gold

Spot and rosette, two coats for two worlds.1/1,000 ounce,spot by spot.

Cheetah, 1/1,000 ounce gold
Cheetah: spots
African Leopard, 1/1,000 ounce of gold
Leopard: rosettes

The cheetah is at home in the wide open and on the move in the bright light of day.

The cheetah

The only one of its genus

Its genus, Acinonyx, has no other living member today. The cheetah needs wide, open land and is mostly active by day, unlike many other cats.

Its coat carries solid, round or oval black spots from 1.9 to 3.8 centimetres; only the throat and belly stay white. The tail ends in four to six black rings.

Cheetahs do not roar; their most common call is a chirp. Females live alone, while males often join up in groups.

The leopard

From the desert to the rainforest

  • Desert
  • Mountain forest
  • Rainforest

No other big cat is as widespread: leopards live in some 62 countries across Africa and Eurasia, in deserts, savannas, mountains and rainforests.

They prefer rocky ground with dense bush and riverine forest. The leopard climbs well, spends much of its time in trees and is mostly active at night, as a loner.

Its coat carries dark, irregular spots, the rosettes; the base colour ranges from pale yellow in warm, dry regions to reddish orange in dense forests. Instead of purring, it calls with a rough, rasping sound.

Why two patterns

The coat often suits where the cat lives

  • Rosettes in a leopard’s coat, detail of a coin

    Rosette

    For trees, forest and night.

  • Solid spots in a cheetah’s coat, detail of a coin

    Spot

    Black, without a ring.

A study of 35 cat species shows that whether a coat is patterned is linked to the habitat. How intricate and irregular the pattern is also relates to life in trees and to activity at night.

Over the course of evolution, such camouflage adapts comparatively quickly to a way of life. In the grey grass where cheetahs often live, their spots can take up the shadows of the blades and let the animals merge with their surroundings.

Rare coats

A black panther can be a leopard

Leopards with melanism, that is with almost black fur, are often called black panthers. Black cheetahs, by contrast, are not known.

In the rare king cheetah, the spots merge into blotches and stripes. It is not a species of its own but carries a rare variant of the gene Taqpep, which shapes the variations of the tabby pattern in domestic cats.

Young cheetahs wear a coat of their own as well: a thick, silvery grey mantle along the back, which they shed at about three months of age.

Gold Cheetah Coin 2025 – minted fine gold in a miniature format

With the Gold Cheetah Coin from Gabon, you secure a piece of physical gold in a particularly handy miniature format. The 2025 year of issue carries a face value of 1,000 CFA francs, measures just 16.00 mm in diameter, and combines the finest fine gold with one of the most expressive motifs of African wildlife. The small coin is issued by the République Gabonaise – however, its value is based primarily on the fine gold it contains and moves in line with the gold price.

  • Design: A finely engraved portrait of a cheetah in profile depicts the characteristic coat pattern and striking facial features of the fastest land animal on Earth in rich detail. Below it reads the inscription "CHEETAH". The piece belongs to the "Animals of the Land" series, which gradually portrays the fascinating fauna of the continent.
  • Material & fineness: Struck in pure gold with a high fineness of 999/1,000 – that is, 24-carat fine gold. The gross weight corresponds to the fine weight of approximately 0.031 g and is denominated as 1/1,000 oz.
  • Manufacturer: Produced by the globally renowned precious metals processor Valcambi, valued for its first-class minting quality.
  • Mintage: Strictly limited to a maximum of 50,000 pieces worldwide.
  • Condition & delivery: Brilliant Uncirculated new stock in flawless quality, delivered in a high-quality coincard, which also serves as a certificate with the numismatic details.

The cheetah – power and elegance in the smallest of spaces

No other land animal embodies speed as impressively as the cheetah. On the coincard, the majestic animal appears in its natural habitat: the vast African savannah with golden-brown grass, the unmistakable silhouettes of acacia trees, and the typical yellowish-golden coat with black spots. The slender, athletic body shape immediately catches the eye. As appealing as the design may be – it remains the personal touch. The real substance and reason for purchase is the fine gold contained in this coin.

Physical gold investment that adds up in small steps

Gold is the world's oldest currency and a proven store of value for over 6,000 years. Throughout its entire history, it has never had a value of zero, possesses intrinsic value, and is recognized as a medium of exchange around the globe. Unlike fiat money, which can be printed at will by central banks, gold is a scarce commodity with a limited supply – a characteristic that has kept its value stable across generations. Especially in small units such as this 1/1,000 oz coin, the precious metal is excellently suited for building wealth step by step and without significant capital investment. Small amounts of gold add up over the years into a considerable holding.

As an inflation hedge and means of crisis protection, physical gold preserves your purchasing power when trust in paper currencies wanes. It offers high liquidity, is tradable worldwide, and can be converted back into cash at any time. It is no coincidence that central banks themselves are among the largest holders of gold in the world.

Despite the expressive cheetah design, what you are acquiring here is fully-fledged investment gold – minted fine gold whose value is based on the gold price.

Classification: a small gold coin in comparison

Anyone who has already gained experience with silver knows the principle: gold is considered the big brother of small silver. Compared to classic bullion coins such as a 1 oz Krugerrand, the Gold Cheetah Coin is significantly cheaper to enter with and is therefore ideal for anyone wanting to invest in precious metals gradually and regularly. Its low weight also makes it particularly flexible – small denominations can be resold more easily when needed than a large bar. Additional gold coins with varying weights sensibly round out a balanced precious metals portfolio.

Give investment gold as a gift

Whether for a birthday, christening, wedding, or Christmas: with the Gold Cheetah Coin, you give real investment gold instead of a fleeting item. You lay the foundation for an asset that will endure over the years and can be passed on – a thoughtful entry into physical gold investment that also brings joy. Gold has been shining for thousands of years and will never lose its shine.
