1 g fine gold

Luck has its signs.A real four-leaf clover,in gold.

On New Year cards around 1900, the wish was already in the picture: four-leaf clovers, ladybirds, horseshoes. These are the signs our pieces carry in gold and silver. This coin carries a real, preserved four-leaf clover.

The four-leaf clover

Four leaves, where three usually grow.

Clover normally has three leaflets, four only in very rare cases. The Botanic Gardens of the University of Bonn call the four-leaf clover a rare exception.

The disposition lies in the genes, as a plant breeder at the University of Georgia found. Whether the fourth leaf actually grows also depends on light and temperature.

The German dictionary Duden calls it Glücksklee: clover with an exceptionally four-part leaf, regarded as a lucky charm. The dictionary of the Brothers Grimm also lists the four-leaf clover as a Glücksblatt, a leaf of luck.

The lucky clover sold in pots, by the way, is a wood sorrel from southern Mexico that naturally has four leaves. It came to Europe in the 19th century.

“A four-leaf clover is a rarity. Lucky is the person who happens to find one.”
Museum der Kulturen, Basel

This coin carries the clover not as a picture, but for real.

The lucky ladybird

Seven spots, a lucky number.

In German folk speech the ladybird is called Glückskäfer, the lucky beetle, as the German dictionary Duden records. The Etymological Dictionary of German calls ladybirds the best known and best loved beetles, regarded as a symbol of luck.

The classic lucky charm is the seven-spot ladybird, red with seven black spots. Seven has always been considered a lucky number, writes NABU, the German nature conservation union.

By the way, the spots do not reveal a ladybird’s age. Their number stays the same throughout its life of at most one year.

A seven-spot ladybird eats 100 to 150 aphids a day, its larva 400 to 600 before it pupates.

“As a lucky charm, the seven-spot ladybird … enjoys great popularity.”
NABU, Naturschutzbund Deutschland

The real clover

Grown, not struck.

Above the clover “GOLD LUCK” runs in an arc.

Luck to give

A wish you keep.

At the turn of the year people give lucky charms. The New Year lucky charms we know today came about in the 19th century.

Many people do not want to throw their lucky charms away or pass them on, for fear the luck might go with them.

Whether lucky charms really bring luck may be left open, writes the Volkskundemuseum Wien. And it names what they are meant to say:

“Whoever gives a lucky charm wants to say: I care about you.”
Volkskundemuseum Wien

A gift for a birth or the new year, for instance: the coin comes in a capsule.

The gold issue Gold Luck 2024 from the Pacific island nation of Palau combines pure fine gold with a detail rarely found on a coin: a genuine four-leaf clover permanently embedded in the recessed center of the design. This gold coin is thus far more than mere metal – yet in substance it remains exactly what matters: minted investment gold.

A Design Rich in Symbolism – The Substance Remains Fine Gold

The obverse bears the inscription "GOLD LUCK" at the top, with the year 2024 below. Delicate, intricate floral ornaments and vines form a golden border framing the concave recessed area where the green clover is set – an ancient symbol of good fortune. It is precisely this contrast between warm gold tones and vivid green that makes the design so expressive. The reverse displays the coat of arms of Palau, surrounded by stars, the country name "REPUBLIC OF PALAU", and the face value of 1 dollar, which gives the coin its status as official legal tender.

As appealing as the design may be – the real reason to buy lies within: 1 g of fine gold with a fineness of 999.9/1,000. The clover gives this issue its personal touch, while the gold gives it lasting value. With a tiny diameter of just 13.92 mm, genuine precious metal is concentrated here in the most compact form.

Small Amounts of Gold, Big Impact

One-gram issues in particular are ideal for gradually building a position in physical gold. Those who regularly acquire small amounts build up considerable wealth in precious metal over the years – tradable at any time, recognized worldwide, and easily converted back into cash.

  • Inflation and crisis protection: Gold has been a proven store of value for over 6,000 years and serves as an inflation hedge against the loss of purchasing power.
  • Crisis resilience: As a form of crisis protection, gold retains its intrinsic value even when confidence in fiat currency wavers.
  • Value preservation across generations: Gold never loses its shine and can be conveniently passed down as an asset.

As small gold coins, issues like this one also make a wonderful gift for occasions such as birthdays, weddings, or christenings – you're not giving a trinket, but genuine investment gold whose value endures over the long term. Despite the personal clover motif, what you are acquiring here is full-fledged, physical fine gold in Proof minting quality.

Gold is the world's oldest currency – it has never been worth zero and withstands times when paper money loses purchasing power.

The coin is delivered protected in a coin capsule that preserves the delicate mirror finish of the Proof quality and the embedded clover. This way, your fine gold remains in optimal condition for the long term – a solid building block for your long-term wealth accumulation.
