Anyone looking for special gold coins with genuine rarity value will find an outstanding piece in this issue. The 0.5 g gold "Suchomimus" is the second issue in the popular Prehistoric Life II series and a true rarity: as a collector's coin with a mintage of only 2,000 pieces worldwide, a strictly limited number meets a loyal community of collectors – it is precisely this combination that gives this limited coinage its high value appreciation potential.

The design: two Suchomimus by a prehistoric river

The obverse is a small work of art. In the foreground, an upright Suchomimus rears up with its mouth wide open, devouring a freshly caught fish, while a second animal in the background appears to roar with its jaws thrown open. The scene is set within a lush prehistoric landscape of dense ferns, trees, and a reflective river. The Suchomimus – whose name means "crocodile mimic" – belonged to the Spinosauridae family and was recognizable by its long, narrow, crocodile-like snout, which it used to hunt fish around 113 to 126 million years ago in the Early Cretaceous. Above the dinosaurs runs the inscription "SUCHOMIMUS 126.3-113 MIO YEARS BC", with the year 2024 below. The fine details and reflective surfaces are shown to particularly striking effect in the Proof minting quality.

The reverse shows the coat of arms of the Democratic Republic of the Congo featuring the leopard head, along with the motto "JUSTICE – PAIX – TRAVAIL". It also displays the face value of 100 francs and the inscription "0.5 g Au 999.9", documenting the fineness and fine weight. This makes the coin an official legal tender of its issuing country.

Small fine gold with great investment character

As appealing as the design is, the true substance of this coin lies in the fine gold it contains. Its value is based primarily on 0.5 g of pure gold of the highest quality and moves in line with the gold price. Gold is humanity's oldest currency, a proven store of value for over 6,000 years, and can be traded and resold worldwide at any time. Physical gold in small denominations is particularly well suited to building wealth in manageable steps – small amounts of gold add up over the years to a substantial holding. This issue is also an excellent way to give genuine investment gold as a birthday or other special occasion gift: what is handed over is not a mere souvenir, but fully-fledged, minted fine gold whose value is tied to the gold market.

Strictly limited coinage, the highest minting quality of Proof, pure fine gold: in this combination, the 0.5 g gold "Suchomimus" unites rarity and substance in a single small coin.

The Prehistoric Life II series at a glance

Launched in 2020, this Congo series dedicated to prehistoric life has become one of the most sought-after themed series in the precious metals sector. Among its designs are the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Mammoth, and Archaeopteryx; in the 2024 vintage, a Triceratops was issued alongside the Suchomimus. The issues are offered both as 0.5 g gold coins in Proof quality and as 1 oz silver coins in Brilliant Uncirculated quality, some in colored versions. The gold variant stands out for its extremely low mintage.
