Curated collection
Australia
One animal, many mints, and every piece shows it differently.
A collection usually takes years to grow. This one arrives complete.

Why as a collection
Put together, not hunted down.
Anyone collecting a subject one piece at a time buys whatever happens to be in stock. Older years, small mintages and strikes from other countries turn up later, or never again.
- One common thread
- The pieces were chosen for a subject, not for what happened to be available.
- A subject closed
- Instead of filling gaps over time, the subject stands whole from the first day.
- No hunting needed
- Gathering what lies together here one piece at a time costs time and attention over years.
What the additions in the name mean.
These terms appear in the article names of the collections. They describe how a coin was made.
- Proof
- The most elaborate way of striking. The die is polished, the field of the coin mirrors, the motif stands matt on top of it.
- Antique finish
- The finished strike is treated afterwards until it looks dark and uneven, like a piece that lay in the ground for a long time.
- High relief
- The motif stands noticeably higher above the field than usual. For that the coin passes through the press several times.
- Partial gilding
- A thin layer of gold is applied to parts of a silver coin so that single areas stand out.
Collecting usually takes years.
Here everything is together on day one.
Different mints, different years, different formats. Gathered one by one, that would be the work of many evenings.

Highlights from Perth: Opal, Rose Gold and the Vast Outback
The Perth Mint looks back on a history dating all the way to 1899. While the Royal Australian Mint in Canberra primarily strikes Australia's circulating coinage, the mint in Western Australia has made an international name for itself with its bullion and collector's coins. Six pieces in this collection come from Perth.
Wonders of Australia – The Outback
The obverse design by designer Jennifer McKenna is a panorama of the outback: a dingo, two emus by a riverbed, a snake, a crocodile, three leaping kangaroos and a wedge-tailed eagle in flight. On the reverse, native flora frames the portrait of King Charles III. The Perth Mint presents the coin in a wood-veneer case with colourfully illustrated outer packaging.
The opal variant goes one step further. Around a round inlay of genuine Australian opal are arranged a bilby, an echidna, a perentie, a rock wallaby and many other outback dwellers. Opal is Australia's national gemstone, called "fire of the desert" by the country's Indigenous peoples. Because every stone grows naturally, no two coins are alike.
Koala 2026 – Five Ounces in High Relief
The heaviest piece in the collection: 5 troy ounces of fine silver, struck on an extra-thick blank in high relief. The koala and the coin's edge feature a 22-carat rose gold plating. Only 750 pieces exist worldwide.
Emu and Quokka – Colour for the Display Case
The coloured emu with its chicks against a glowing sunset and the famous "smiling" quokka family in front of the Rottnest Island lighthouse bring a lighter touch to the collection. Both come from the Perth Mint and are struck in 999.9 fine silver.
The Gold Stop: Kangaroo Nugget 1/10 oz
Since 1986, the Perth Mint has struck the Australian Nugget, and since 1990 with an annually changing kangaroo design. The 2026 issue, struck in 999.9 fine gold, depicts two kangaroos leaping through shallow water. A "40" privy mark celebrates the series' 40th anniversary. Small in size, but a true icon among gold coins.
Exclusive Stages: Wildlife Series, Wildlife and Golden Desert
The Kookaburra and Kangaroo from the Australia Wildlife Series are exclusive Proof mintings by Kettner Edelmetalle, each limited to 1,000 pieces. The kookaburra is shown with its beak wide open against dot art inspired by Aboriginal art. Even rarer is the Australian Wildlife 2026: colour-finished and partially gilded in Germany, featuring a kangaroo, koala and quokka in front of Uluru. Only 100 pieces of this exist. The Golden Desert from the "Colours of Australia" series (issuing country Niue) bathes two dingoes in the warm light of the Australian desert.
Note on condition: The coins come from different mints and are available in various qualities, ranging from Proof to Mint State with colour application. The exact grades and technical specifications are explained in detail on the respective individual product pages.

Set or Individual Purchase?
Of course, the coins can also be collected individually. However, that takes time. And especially with mintages of 100, 750 or 1,000 pieces, some designs sell out quickly. The collection saves you the search and delivers a thematically cohesive ensemble. Anyone looking for just one specific animal, on the other hand, has more flexibility with the individual item. Compared to classic bullion coins such as the Silver Kangaroo in Mint State, the collector's value is clearly the focus here. The design, finishing and limited mintage are what make it so appealing.
Nine silver coins, one gold coin, one continent: the Outback Road Trip is Australia you can hold in your hand.
Values That Endure
Silver and gold have accompanied humanity for millennia. Gold is considered the oldest currency in the world and has outlasted every paper currency. Physical precious metals are something you can hold in your hand — they depend on no promise of payment and have always been regarded as a proven hedge against inflation. In this collection, wealth preservation is combined with the joy of collecting. For lovers of Australian coins, this is a road trip that never ends.
