Few series from the Perth Mint have electrified collectors worldwide quite like Deadly & Dangerous. For the 20th anniversary, the very coin that started it all in 2006 makes its return: the Red-Back Spider. This special edition from 2026 combines the legendary design with the finest of all mint qualities – the Proof. Those who appreciate silver coins with appreciation potential will find an exceptionally sought-after piece here.
The History of a Cult Series from Australia
The Deadly & Dangerous series launched in 2006 with the red-back spider and quickly became an international success. The occasion at the time was the 50th anniversary of the first antivenom against the bite of this feared Australian spider. The original mintage of 5,000 pieces sold out in no time and now commands impressive collector prices on the secondary market. This very classic is now receiving a new edition – featuring the same striking spider design, rendered on the generous 40.90 mm planchet. Alongside the silver edition, there is also an extremely rare gold counterpart with a micro-mintage of only a few dozen coins, which further underscores the cult status of the series.
Design and Motif
The reverse depicts the colourfully rendered red-back spider with its deep black, spherical body and characteristic red stripe on the abdomen, crawling across a finely chiselled spider web. An exclusive privy mark for the 20th anniversary – a stylised spider symbol with the number "20" – completes the composition. The obverse bears the portrait of King Charles III, the issuing state of Tuvalu, the face value of 1 Dollar, the year of issue 2026, and the fine silver specification. The reeded edge rounds off the premium appearance.

Silver as a Solid Investment
Silver has been valued as a monetary and coinage metal for thousands of years and is regarded as a proven store of value. It possesses an intrinsic, physical value, is liquid and tradeable worldwide, and serves as a hedge against inflation as well as political and economic crises. Added to this is its limited availability: supply is finite, while industrial demand from electronics, solar, and medical technology remains persistently high. Unlike fiat money, whose value depends on trust in state institutions, silver carries its value within itself.
Tax note: Gains from the sale of physical silver coins are generally tax-free for private individuals, provided the minimum holding period of at least one year is observed.
For collectors and investors alike, this limited edition thus combines several attractions: the emotional value of a sought-after design, the craftsmanship of the Proof strike, and the substance of genuine fine silver. As a diversification and long-term tangible asset investment, such coins can also be passed down through generations – a tangible piece of precious metal that brings joy and conveys permanence.
