Five masters, five gold coins: the complete collage set
Mona Lisa, Starry Night, The Kiss, Impression – Sunrise, the girl with a pearl earring. These images are known the world over. With the set "The Old Masters in Gold – Collage Series 2026 complete" you secure all five collage mintings of the Republic of Gabon in one go: five genuine gold coins made of 999/1,000 fine gold, each featuring the golden signature of a great painter and each in a coloured coincard with his most famous works.
What's included in the set
- Gold Leonardo da Vinci Collage Coin – signature "L. Da Vinci" in gold, with the portrait of the universal genius, the Vitruvian Man and the Mona Lisa on the card
- Gold Vincent van Gogh Collage Coin – self-portrait, Starry Night and Sunflowers in vivid colours
- Gold Gustav Klimt Collage Coin – signature "GVSTAV KLIMT" in block letters, plus The Kiss and the portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I
- Gold Claude Monet Collage Coin – self-portrait, Impression – Sunrise and the famous water lilies
- Gold Jan Vermeer Collage Coin – signature of the Delft master, The Art of Painting and The Girl with a Pearl Earring
Small format, genuine fine gold
Each of the five coins contains 0.03 g of fine gold in the denomination of 1/1,000 ounce. Together, the set therefore weighs in at 0.15 g of pure gold. That may sound modest, but it is genuine, minted precious metal with a fineness of 999/1,000. The rectangular gold plates each measure 15.4 × 11 mm and sit clearly visible in the window of their card.
On the obverse, the artist's name appears in relief in gold, usually above a fine ornament or a sketch-style background. The reverse bears the inscription RÉPUBLIQUE GABONAISE, Gabon's national coat of arms with its two panthers, the face value of 1000 FRANCS CFA, and the indication 999/1000 FINE GOLD. Each coin is thus official legal tender of the Central African state, whose currency – the CFA franc – is also valid in neighbouring countries such as Chad. The mintage is limited to a maximum of 50,000 pieces per design.

A journey through five centuries of painting
What makes this series so appealing is its span. Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519) represents the High Renaissance, curiosity without boundaries. Jan Vermeer (1632–1675) painted quiet, light-filled interiors during the Dutch Golden Age; only around 35 paintings are today considered confirmed as his work. With Claude Monet, a new era then begins, as his painting "Impression, soleil levant" gave Impressionism its name. Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) turned colour into pure emotion. And Gustav Klimt (1862–1918), co-founder of the Vienna Secession, applied genuine gold leaf to his canvases.
Klimt painted with gold. This series mints the great painters in gold – a circle that closes beautifully.
The originals hang scattered across half the world: in the Louvre in Paris, in the Belvedere in Vienna, in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, in the Mauritshuis in The Hague. With this set, they lie united in your hand.
Who the set is worthwhile for
Collectors value one thing above all: completeness. Anyone assembling the collage coins individually has to search five times over. Here, the series is complete, and the cards are perfectly matched in design.
As a gift, the set is hard to beat. Art lovers, godchildren, friends with a fondness for museums – they receive not a fleeting memento, but genuine gold. For young people in particular, a set like this is often the very first step into the world of precious metals.
Gold is humanity's oldest currency. It has outlasted empires, paper money and currency reforms, and to this day stands as the embodiment of value preservation, inflation hedge and crisis protection. Even the smallest denominations carry this character within them: their value rests on the precious metal they contain, not on a mere promise.
In comparison: micro-gold or classic bullion coin?
The collage coins pursue a different approach than a Krugerrand or a Maple Leaf with a full ounce. With such small weights, design, the card's colour printing and minting effort play a greater role than with larger formats. Anyone specifically looking to get as much gold as possible for their budget is well advised to choose larger coins and bars.
In return, these little works of art offer advantages that an ounce coin simply doesn't have:
- a very low entry threshold into physical gold
- designs with cultural depth rather than purely investment-oriented design
- flexibly divisible – each coin can be gifted individually
- official face value and limited mintage per design
Even within the art series from Gabon and Chad, which feature many individual motifs by great masters, the Collage Series stands out. Instead of a single painting, each card presents several icons at once, together with a portrait of the artist himself.
