Oliver Haas Barter Means Package S: 26 Precious Metal Pieces for the Worst Case
Anyone talking about crisis preparedness quickly arrives at one simple question: What do I pay with when cards, bank accounts, and payment systems fail? A full ounce of gold is of little use at the bakery. A tenth of a gram, however, works much better. This line of thinking is what gave rise to the Oliver Haas Barter Means Package S. Its name comes from financial YouTuber Oliver Haas, who regularly discusses inflation, blackout scenarios, and financial self-determination in his interviews with Dominik Kettner.
The package bundles 26 individual pieces of gold and silver in five denominations. From 0.1 grams of fine gold up to a full silver ounce, every size is included, allowing value to be passed on in finely graduated amounts. Combined, the coins and bars have a fine weight of 81.47 grams.
Contents of the Barter Means Package S
- 15 x 1/10 oz Silver German Eagle 2026 – 3.11 g fine silver 999.9 each
- 1 x 1 oz Silver Krugerrand 2026 – 31.1 g fine silver 999
- 5 x 1/50 oz Silver Triple Maple Leaf 2026 (Proof) – 0.62 g fine silver 999.9 each
- 3 x 0.1 g Gold Bar Heimerle + Meule (Kettner Edelmetalle) – fine gold 999.9
- 2 x 1/200 oz Gold Bar Heimerle + Meule (Kettner Edelmetalle) – 0.16 g fine gold 999.9 each
In total, that amounts to 80.85 grams of fine silver and 0.62 grams of fine gold. Silver provides the mass, gold the value density – and this combination is no coincidence.
Why Small Denominations in Particular?
Gold is humanity's oldest currency and has outlived all others. Silver has accompanied it for thousands of years as a divisible, everyday-practical monetary metal. When bartering, however, it's not just value that matters, but also divisibility. No one can saw a large bar apart without it losing value. Anyone who instead owns many small coins and bars only needs to give away as much as is currently necessary, while keeping the rest.
This is why the Barter Means Package S works like a staircase. The tiny gold bars cover the smallest amounts, the 1/50 oz Maples form the next step. Above that come fifteen 1/10 oz Eagles as the actual small-change reserve, and at the very top the Krugerrand as the largest silver unit. This way, almost any amount can be assembled precisely, without any need for change.
German Eagle 2026: The National Anthem in Fine Silver
The core of the package consists of fifteen specimens of the German Eagle in 1/10 oz. On the eagle side, an eagle approaches with widely spread wings in front of a radiant halo. Surrounding it are the words "EINIGKEIT UND RECHT UND FREIHEIT" (Unity and Justice and Freedom), the inscription "1/10 UNZE FEINSILBER 9999," and the lettering "PERPETUA SECURITAS," meaning eternal security. The reverse shows Germania in armor, with a spear, oak leaf wreath, and an eagle on her helmet, along with "FÜR DAS DEUTSCHE VATERLAND" (For the German Fatherland) and the year 2026. Turning the coin over, one reads the first two lines of today's national anthem.
The coin has a diameter of 20 millimeters, is made of silver with a fineness of 999.9, and is delivered in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition. It carries the face value of ONE DOLLAR from the issuing country Liberia. It is manufactured in Germany as an in-house product of Kettner Edelmetalle.
Silver Krugerrand: A World Classic as an Anchor
Since 1967, the name Krugerrand has stood for investment gold from South Africa. For its 50th anniversary in 2017, it appeared in silver for the first time, and since 2018 the South African Mint has regularly issued the Silver Krugerrand as a bullion coin. On one side leaps the famous springbok designed by Coert Steynberg, while the other side features Paul Kruger after Otto Schultz. The ounce measures 38.725 millimeters, has a fineness of 999/1000, and carries the face value R1, meaning one Rand. In the package, it is the largest silver unit and at the same time the most internationally recognized.
Triple Maple Leaf 1/50 oz: Proof Quality in Miniature Format
Five coins bring collector's shine to the package. The Triple Maple Leaf 2026 shows three maple leaves on a shared stem, with the lettering CANADA above. The reverse guides the eye up a maple trunk into the crown. With a diameter of 16.5 millimeters and 0.62 grams of fine silver 999.9, it is the smallest silver denomination. According to manufacturer Kettner Edelmetalle, the Proof finish with its deep dark mirror background is tarnish-protected, making the coin appear far more refined than its weight would suggest. The face value is 1 dollar, with Liberia as the issuing country.
Gold Bars by Heimerle + Meule: Fine Gold from Pforzheim
The gold in the package comes from Heimerle + Meule. The company was founded in 1845 in Pforzheim and is Germany's oldest gold and silver refinery. The bars bear the inscription "FINE GOLD 999.9," the respective weight, the logo with the year 1845, and the "melter assayer" hallmark. For gold bars, Heimerle + Meule is certified as an LBMA Good Delivery manufacturer. Three 0.1 g gold bars and two 1/200 oz gold bars at 0.16 grams each are the smallest units in the package. These in particular demonstrate just how much value gold can store in the smallest of spaces.
Package or Individual Ounces? An Honest Comparison
For around 81 grams of fine weight, one could also buy two or three silver ounces. Per gram, that would be cheaper, since small denominations carry a higher premium. That is the price of flexibility. In return, the package offers something no single ounce can: flexibility when bartering and when selling later on. In addition, the value is spread across two metals. The gold-to-silver ratio changes constantly over the years. Anyone who owns both precious metals doesn't need to commit to one side.
In an emergency, what matters is not how big the bar is, but whether you can put it to proper use.
Who Is the Barter Means Package S Suitable For?
- Beginners who want to start with physical gold and silver on a manageable budget
- The prepared-minded who want to build a handy barter means reserve for crises and power outages
- Collectors who appreciate modern bullion coins and a Proof edition in one package
- Gift givers who want to pass on individual pieces for birthdays, christenings, or holidays
One more advantage: in Germany, profits from the private sale of physical precious metals are generally tax-free after a holding period of more than one year. Precious metal that you hold in your hands needs no bank, no network, and no permission. It protects against inflation and represents a piece of independence that can be passed down through generations. The Oliver Haas Barter Means Package S makes this idea tangible, in 26 pieces that together are worth more than their mere grams.
