1 kg Silver Lunar III Goat 2027 – one kilogram of Australian fine silver

A full kilogram of silver, minted in Australia, with an impressive diameter of 100.90 mm: the Goat 2027 from the Silver Lunar III series is the eighth of twelve designs in the Perth Mint's current twelve-year cycle. Anyone holding this coin for the first time understands its appeal immediately – here lies a palm-sized tangible asset in the capsule, 1000 grams of pure investment metal.

  • Investment purpose: a bullion coin for wealth preservation, inflation hedge and crisis protection – a large amount of metal in a single piece, with a moderate premium per ounce.
  • Design: three goats by the water, alongside a plum blossom branch, a Chinese character, the inscription "GOAT 2027" and the "P" mint mark of the mint.
  • Material / fineness: 1000 g fine silver, fineness 999.9/1,000 – the purest investment silver, free of alloy additives.
  • Manufacturer: the renowned Perth Mint, founded in 1899 in Western Australia.
  • Country of origin: Australia – legal tender with a face value of 30 AUD.

"Three goats bring bliss" – the design in the Year of the Goat

The obverse shows an adult goat, a young goat and a kid in a tranquil river landscape. This composition draws on the Chinese formula for good fortune "Three Goats Bring Bliss," which stands for the end of winter, the onset of spring and an auspicious new beginning. The blossoming plum tree in the background symbolises purity, resilience and hope. The design was created by Natasha Muhl. On the generous surface of the kilo coin, the fine texture of the fur comes through with particular depth – a level of detail that smaller denominations simply cannot achieve.

The reverse bears the portrait of King Charles III created by Dan Thorne, together with the weight, fineness and the face value of 30 Australian dollars. In addition, a micro-engraved letter is hidden within the design. This security feature is only visible under magnification and makes counterfeiting significantly more difficult.

Perth Mint: minting artistry with over 125 years of experience

The Perth Mint is one of the most renowned mints in the world. Kookaburra, Koala, Kangaroo and, above all, the Lunar series have established its reputation. For investors, one thing matters most: consistently high minting quality and worldwide tradability. For the kilo denomination of the Lunar Series III, there is no fixed mintage cap – coins are struck according to demand, exclusively within the respective year of issue. By comparison, the 1 oz version traditionally has a mintage of 300,000 pieces. After that, each design moves into the archive. It is precisely this mechanism that has made earlier years – from the Mouse 2020 through Tiger, Rabbit and Dragon to the Snake 2025 and the Horse 2026 – highly sought after among collectors over the years.

Why silver is a strong foundation

Silver served as coinage metal and means of payment for thousands of years, long before paper money existed. Various cultures used it as a symbol of wealth and prestige. Unlike fiat money, whose value depends on trust in governments, the white metal possesses intrinsic value: it is scarce, durable and indispensable for industry. Electronics, photovoltaics and medical technology consume it continuously, while supply can only be expanded to a limited extent. This combination of monetary tradition and real industrial demand makes physical silver a robust building block for long-term wealth accumulation – and an asset that can be passed down through generations.

For tax purposes in Germany: profits from the sale of physical silver are generally tax-free provided a minimum holding period of one year is observed. Large silver coins such as this kilo coin are also liquid at any time and can be quickly resold through a specialist dealer. Shipping is naturally carried out as insured shipping.

Gold is humanity's oldest currency and has outlived all others – silver has always accompanied it as the money of everyday life.

1 kilogram or many small units?

Compared to individual ounce coins, the kilo coin bundles a very large amount of metal into a single piece. This saves space in the safe, simplifies management and, in this denomination, tends to keep the premium per ounce moderate. Anyone seeking maximum divisibility for small transactions, on the other hand, can sensibly combine the kilo coin with 1 oz issues or smaller units. It is also worth looking at the sister series: while Kookaburra and Koala feature a new design of the same animal every year, Australian Lunar III changes the animal completely each time. This means every year of issue remains a distinct collector's item – and over twelve years the series tells a coherent story.

For investors and collectors alike

The 1 kg silver coin Australia Lunar III Goat 2027 combines two worlds: it is an investment product with a clear link to the metal, and at the same time a collector's item from an internationally established series. Whether as an addition to an existing Lunar collection, as an entry point into large-format investment silver, or as a tangible reserve for turbulent times – this kilo coin impresses through its weight, design and provenance. A tangible asset that sits in your own cabinet, free of counterparty risk.
