10 oz Gold Lunar III Goat 2027 – a heavyweight in 999.9 fine gold

  • Investment objective: Bullion coin for wealth preservation and inflation hedging – ten troy ounces of bundled crisis protection in a single piece.
  • Design: A long-haired goat on a rocky mountain plateau, flanked by a single tree – along with the Chinese character for goat, the inscription "GOAT 2027" and the "P" mint mark of the mint.
  • Material / Fineness: 311.03 grams of fine gold at 999.9/1,000 – "four nines", virtually alloy-free and therefore of a warm, pure gold tone.
  • Manufacturer: Struck by the world-renowned Perth Mint, one of the most storied minting institutions in the world.
  • Country of origin: Australia. Official legal tender with a face value of 1,000 AUD.
  • Condition: Brilliant Uncirculated new stock, individually in a coin capsule, diameter 60.00 mm.

Ten ounces. In one hand. Anyone who takes this coin out of its capsule for the first time immediately understands why large denominations are so popular among investors: here lies a compact fortune that fits in any safe. The Gold Lunar Goat 2027 is the eighth design of the third Lunar series and seamlessly continues a success story that began in 1996.

The design: gentle strength in the high mountains

The obverse shows a powerful goat with long, finely chiseled fur and curved horns, standing confidently on a rocky plateau. In the background: rugged rock formations and a gnarled, solitary tree. The relief is remarkably three-dimensional – across a 60-millimeter diameter, every strand of hair comes into its own, which is precisely what makes this large denomination so appealing. In the Chinese zodiac, the goat is regarded as a symbol of gentleness, creativity and quiet perseverance; people born in 2027, 2015, 2003 or 1991 fall under this sign.

The reverse featuring King Charles III

On the reverse, the portrait of King Charles III, designed by Dan Thorne, defines the image. Around the edge one reads "CHARLES III" and "AUSTRALIA", below which are the classic details: 10oz, 9999 Au and the face value of 1,000 dollars. Since the change of monarch, Australia's bullion coins have carried this portrait – a numismatically exciting turning point within the ongoing series.

Lunar Series III: twelve animals, twelve years of issue

The Perth Mint's Lunar gold coins follow the Chinese lunar calendar. Each year the animal changes, and each year an entirely new design is created. Series III began in 2020 with the Rat and runs until 2031; the Australian Lunar Goat gold coin marks the year 2027 within it. It is precisely this rhythm that generates the collector demand for which the series is famous: whoever assembles a complete series ends up owning twelve distinct works of art in fine gold.

A note on mintage: the 10-ounce edition is struck by the Perth Mint without a fixed maximum mintage, but production for the year of issue ends with the close of 2026. Only afterwards does the mint announce how many pieces were actually produced. Experience shows that quantities for the heavier formats tend to be very limited – quite unlike mass-produced products.

Why ten ounces of all things?

Large units have a clear advantage: the premium over the material value per gram is usually lower than with small denominations such as the 1/10 or 1/4 ounce. At the same time, you save space. Ten individual one-ounce coins require considerably more volume than this single massive disc. The price for this is reduced divisibility – anyone wishing to flexibly sell off small amounts therefore likes to combine the large Lunar coin with fractional coins or handy gold bars.

Compared to the Kangaroo or the Krugerrand, the Lunar scores with its annually changing design and the collector appeal this creates. The Krugerrand, in turn, is more robustly alloyed and even better known worldwide. Both paths make sense; many customers deliberately mix the two. Gold is humanity's oldest currency. It has outlasted empires, paper money experiments and currency reforms – and has never once stood at zero.

Wealth preservation that lasts across generations

Gold has served as a store of value for more than 6,000 years. It possesses intrinsic value, is scarce, indestructible and tradable worldwide – qualities that no printed money possesses. It is no coincidence that the very central banks that issue fiat money themselves hoard such vast quantities of the yellow metal in their vaults. For private investors, this means high liquidity, convertibility at any time, and a shield against loss of purchasing power as well as political upheaval.

From a tax perspective, physical investment gold shows its friendly side: in Germany, its purchase is exempt from VAT, and capital gains are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year. This makes the 10 oz Lunar III Goat gold coin an excellent long-term building block for wealth, one that can later be passed on to the next generation.

Whether as the centerpiece of your holdings, as an addition to an existing Lunar collection, or simply as a solid reserve for turbulent times: this coin combines craftsmanship, purity and substance. Shipping is, of course, carried out as insured value shipping, securely packaged and discreet.
