The name

The C. stands for Carl.

In 1869, Carl Hafner carries on the sweepings works under his own name: C. Hafner. A reference from his apprenticeship values him for his “loyalty, honesty, love of work and morality”, in the words of his time.

Today, descendants of Carl Hafner run the house in the fifth generation; since 1995, Birgitta Hafner and her cousin Dr. Philipp Reisert have led it together. As its guiding principle, the house names the honourable merchant.

“We have a good name, but it only stays as good as it stands up to external scrutiny.”
Dr. Philipp Reisert, C.Hafner
  • LBMAOn the Good Delivery List of the London Bullion Market Association since 2013, for gold.
  • RJCCertified by the Responsible Jewellery Council to the Code of Practices and Chain of Custody, first in 2016, valid until 7 April 2028.

The assay

If it enters the house,it is tested.

In 1892 the Carl Dieterle assay office joins the house. The assay laboratory works with docimasy, according to C.Hafner the oldest known method of determining the fineness of gold alloys.

Every delivery is analysed. If it is melted down into a bar, that bar is drilled and the drillings are tested for their precious metal content. For the fire assay, a report from 2025 gives two to three days.

The laboratory is accredited by DAkkS as a testing laboratory to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025, for determining fine metals in precious metal alloys, and it takes part in international proficiency tests.

The bars

Ten small cards on one tablet.

At the top it reads “ceha SmartPack by C.HAFNER”. Each of the ten small cards bears the lettering C.HAFNER with the mark, the ch in the crucible, and holds a small bar.

The Smart Pack

A bar for every grandchild.

Each of the ten bars can be detached along the perforation and has its own certificate, each sealed on its own.

On the back, each small card bears the fineness, weight and number, along with the seal “MELTER · ASSAYER · C.HAFNER”.

Each small card reads “LBMA Good Delivery Refiner”. The print refers to the house, which is on the Good Delivery List for gold, not to the individual bar.

10 x 1g Gold Bar Smart Pack C. Hafner: ten individual grams of fine gold for flexible crisis provision

  • Investment goal: Ten gold bars of one gram each form an effective inflation hedge and at the same time leave you free to choose how many of them you use.
  • Preserving value: As a genuine store of value, gold secures the substance of your wealth, even when paper money loses purchasing power.
  • Protection: When inflation, recession and growing national debt come together, part of your wealth rests safely in fine gold.
  • Crisis protection: Every single gram is a full-fledged means of payment and exchange when small amounts are needed in a crisis.
  • Individually usable: ten separate bars that can be taken out and passed on individually

In a crisis, what often counts is not the large amount but the right small unit. The 10 x 1g Gold Bar Smart Pack C. Hafner spreads ten grams of fine gold across ten independent bars. In total weight it corresponds to a 10g gold bar, but you decide for yourself whether to hold everything or, when needed, use just a single 1g gold bar.

Ten bars instead of one: room to manoeuvre in any situation

A large bar can only be sold or given away as a whole. The Smart Pack is different: you can use one bar for an exchange, give a second to a grandchild and keep the rest as a reserve. If you later want to convert part of your gold into cash, you sell exactly as many grams as you need at the time.

Many investors know this principle from the gold CombiBar, which can be divided into individual grams. With the Smart Pack, the ten grams are independent bars from the outset.

Crisis provision with small weights

When payment systems falter or confidence in a currency dwindles, a tangible asset becomes particularly important. Gold is accepted as a store of value all around the globe and can be traded almost anywhere. A one-gram bar is also a size that suits everyday exchanges. This makes the Smart Pack a practical form of crisis protection that takes up hardly any space.

Recovered gold from C. Hafner

The bars come from C. Hafner, a gold and silver refinery whose history began in Pforzheim in 1850 and which today has its headquarters in Wimsheim in Baden-Württemberg. For its fine gold bars, the company processes recovered gold from recycling. C. Hafner also holds Good Delivery status from the LBMA, the industry association of the London precious metals market.

Your Smart Pack is minted in Germany and contains fine gold with a fineness of 999.9/1,000. The pack also comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Inflation protection gram by gram

Central banks can expand the money supply, whereas the amount of gold remains limited. That is why gold preserves its purchasing power over long periods, while savings held in paper money gradually lose value. Incidentally, central banks themselves are among the most important gold holders worldwide.

As investment gold, the bars are VAT-free. If private investors in Germany hold their bars for more than one year, any gain on their sale is tax-free.

The Smart Pack in five points

  1. Ten units: 10 bars of 1 g each, 10 g of fine gold in total
  2. Fineness: 999.9/1,000
  3. Manufacturer: C. Hafner, refinery with LBMA Good Delivery status
  4. Origin: minted in Germany
  5. Documentation: certificate of authenticity
Ten small bars leave you ten decisions open, where one large bar allows only a single one.
