Some coins are plain. This one is very deliberately not. The 1 oz Silver Elegant Triple Maple Leaf 2026 combines the celebrated Triple Maple design with black rhodium plating and a matte Proof finish. Struck from 999.9 pure silver, this Canadian issue presents itself as an extraordinary collector's piece – and the mintage of just 7,500 specimens makes it a true rarity.
Black Rhodium Meets Matte Proof Finish
What makes it special is the contrast. The black rhodium plating fills the field on both sides, laying itself like a dark curtain around the design. Against this backdrop, the three silvery gleaming maple leaves stand out all the more brilliantly. The matte Proof background directs the light – and the eye – precisely onto the finely chiselled leaves. The result is a dramatic interplay of light and dark, brilliant and matte, that is barely perceptible in a photograph and only truly appreciated when held in the hand. As a welcome side effect, the rhodium layer simultaneously protects the surface from tarnishing.
A Design by Stan Witten
The Triple Maple design was created by Stan Witten, the long-serving Senior Engraver of the Royal Canadian Mint. Three gently overlapping maple leaves, tilted slightly to the right, create an impression of movement – as if they had just drifted to the ground. The original composition was created in Witten's own garden: he collected fallen leaves, arranged them, photographed the arrangement, and then translated the composition into a sculptural engraving. The design thus reflects his fascination with nature and the maple leaf in particular.
The reverse features the inscriptions "CANADA", "FINE SILVER 1OZ ARGENT PUR", the fineness "9999", and the engraver's initials "SW". The obverse bears the effigy of King Charles III, the face value of 20 dollars, and the year of issue 2026.
Technical Specifications & Position within the Maple Family
The classic Silver Maple Leaf has been one of the world's most popular bullion coins since 1988 – simple, pure, and tradeable worldwide. The Elegant Triple Maple issue goes a step further: it takes the same fineness of 999.9 and the same ounce of fine weight, but elevates the piece through rhodium plating, Matte Proof quality, and a low mintage to the status of a collector's coin. Those seeking pure denomination at spot price will reach for the standard version; those who value artistry and rarity will find here a refined collector's piece with clear technical specifications. A similar logic is familiar from plated gold coins from the same mint.
Silver as a Foundation for Collectors and Investors
Silver has been valued as a store of value and monetary metal for thousands of years. It combines an intrinsic value driven by industry – including electronics, solar, and medical technology – with a limited supply. This underpins its role as an inflation hedge and reliable crisis protection. Unlike pure paper money, silver possesses an intrinsic value that does not depend on trust in a government.
Gains from the private sale of silver are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year.
This makes the limited edition suitable both for long-term retirement provision and the transfer of wealth across generations, as well as an aesthetic highlight of any collection. High liquidity, worldwide recognition, and the craftsmanship of the Royal Canadian Mint complete the picture. Your coin is delivered securely packaged in a high-quality case – ready for the display cabinet or the safe.
