The bar reads “seit 1850” (since 1850); the house has carried the name C. Hafner since 1869.

The name

The C. stands for Carl.

In 1869, Carl Hafner carries on the sweepings works under his own name: C. Hafner. A reference from his apprenticeship values him for his “loyalty, honesty, love of work and morality”, in the words of his time.

Today, descendants of Carl Hafner run the house in the fifth generation; since 1995, Birgitta Hafner and her cousin Dr. Philipp Reisert have led it together. As its guiding principle, the house names the honourable merchant.

“We have a good name, but it only stays as good as it stands up to external scrutiny.”
Dr. Philipp Reisert, C.Hafner
  • LBMAOn the Good Delivery List of the London Bullion Market Association since 2013, for gold.
  • RJCCertified by the Responsible Jewellery Council to the Code of Practices and Chain of Custody, first in 2016, valid until 7 April 2028.

The assay

If it enters the house,it is tested.

In 1892 the Carl Dieterle assay office joins the house. The assay laboratory works with docimasy, according to C.Hafner the oldest known method of determining the fineness of gold alloys.

Every delivery is analysed. If it is melted down into a bar, that bar is drilled and the drillings are tested for their precious metal content. For the fire assay, a report from 2025 gives two to three days.

The laboratory is accredited by DAkkS as a testing laboratory to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025, for determining fine metals in precious metal alloys, and it takes part in international proficiency tests.

The bar

A ch in a crucible.

Next to the lettering C.HAFNER is the mark of the house, a ch in a crucible, within a simple circle. The LBMA describes it as a stylised ch in a round crucible.

The CertiCard

Once opened,the card shows it.

If the card is opened, the film turns cloudy, and it can no longer be resealed. Since 2015, C.Hafner has packed its bars itself.

C.Hafner supplies this bar in a CertiCard. According to the house, the authenticity and integrity of the packaging can be checked before opening; the certificate states the serial number and confirms the tested purity.

The card bears the seal “MELTER · ASSAYER · C.HAFNER” and “LBMA Good Delivery Refiner”. The print refers to the house, which is on the Good Delivery List for gold, not to the individual bar.

10g Gold Bar C. Hafner: minted fine gold from Germany for flexible provision

  • Investment goal: With gold bars in small denominations, you build up your protection against inflation at exactly the pace that suits you.
  • Preserving value: With gold, you preserve purchasing power in a form that you own yourself and do not have to entrust to any bank.
  • Protection: When inflation, recession and high public debt coincide, a bar like this becomes reliable crisis protection for your savings.
  • Crisis protection: In an emergency, a bar of this size can serve as a means of exchange, precisely because its value remains manageable.
  • Quality: fineness 999.9/1,000 from a refinery with LBMA Good Delivery status

Not every form of provision begins with large sums. The 10g Gold Bar C. Hafner makes it easy to invest part of your savings in fine gold and to expand these holdings step by step. Minted in Germany and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, it is a manageable yet effective inflation hedge.

Provision in small units

Small bars have a practical advantage: you can regularly invest smaller amounts in gold instead of waiting for a large sum. Over time, this builds up holdings that protect your purchasing power bar by bar. A bar of this size is also well suited as a gift of lasting value for children or grandchildren, for example on a special birthday. Several small bars can also be kept in different secure places, which gives you additional freedom.

Verified quality from C. Hafner

The bar is made by C. Hafner, a precious metals company from Baden-Württemberg. C. Hafner holds LBMA Good Delivery status, which the London Bullion Market Association only grants to refineries with strictly controlled processes and reliable information on weight and fineness. Your bar therefore comes from a manufacturer whose specifications are recognised in the international gold trade.

For a minted bar, a blank of fine gold is given its lettering and markings under high pressure. This creates an even surface with clean edges. Your bar is new and in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, and it comes in a blister card in which it remains untouched.

Trust or intrinsic value: what distinguishes gold from paper money

The value of paper money rests on trust in the states and central banks that issue it. Gold, on the other hand, has an intrinsic value based on its physical properties and its scarcity. When confidence in a currency wavers, this difference gains in importance. That is why many people deliberately hold part of their wealth in gold so as not to depend solely on paper money. Gold is one of humanity's oldest means of payment and has retained this role in many cultures and eras.

A further advantage: as investment gold, the bar is VAT-free. For private investors in Germany, the following also applies: if you hold your bar for more than one year, you can keep any gain from its sale tax-free.

One bar after another: this is how a reserve grows that belongs to you alone.
