Year of the Goat 2027 – one gram of Swiss fine gold against the loss of purchasing power

  • Investment goal: Physical gold as an inflation hedge: This 1g gold bar effectively protects your savings against creeping currency devaluation.
  • Preservation of value: A genuine store of value instead of a paper promise. Gold bars secure the real substance of your wealth, no matter how much money is printed.
  • Hedging: Inflation, recession, record state debt? With gold, your wealth stands on solid ground.
  • Crisis protection: Small, handy, finely divided. One gram is ideally suited as crisis protection and a medium of exchange when currencies falter.
  • Design: Three goats on rocky peaks, framed by mountains, clouds, and a Chinese meander band.
  • Material / Fineness: Pure fine gold with 999.9/1,000 fineness, exactly 1 g, minted in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) quality.
  • Manufacturer: Argor-Heraeus, the LBMA-listed traditional refinery from Mendrisio.
  • Country of origin: Switzerland, "Swiss Made" is printed on the blister.

One gram. Sounds modest? It isn't. The Argor-Heraeus Year of the Goat 2027 bar combines everything that makes a solid gold investment on just 15 x 8.7 millimeters: verified purity, a globally recognized Swiss origin, and a value that depends on no printing press. The edition is limited to 18,888 bars, and each one carries its own number.

Fully-fledged investment gold: the value lies in the metal

Despite the New Year's motif, what you are purchasing here is fully-fledged investment gold, i.e. minted fine gold whose value tracks the gold price. This is precisely where the strength of the small format lies. You build wealth step by step, without having to tie up large sums all at once. One gram month after month: small amounts of gold add up over the years to a considerable holding.

Equally important is the flexibility when selling. If you need liquidity, simply sell individual bars instead of one large piece. Gold is tradable worldwide and can be quickly converted into cash. Furthermore, after a holding period of more than one year, capital gains from physical gold are generally tax-free in Germany.

  • Value basis: 1.0 g fine gold with a fineness of 999.9/1,000
  • Wealth building in small, manageable steps
  • Tradable at any time and easy to resell
  • Protected in a blister pack with certificate

Why gold has defied inflation for thousands of years

Paper money can be multiplied at will. Gold cannot. Supply is scarce and mining is labor-intensive. That is why, in over 6,000 years of history, this precious metal has never had a value of zero. As far back as ancient Egypt, it served as a unit of measure in trade, and later it was used to pay for goods along the Silk Road. In the 19th and 20th centuries, under the gold standard, paper money could even be exchanged directly for a fixed amount of gold. Gold is the world's oldest currency and has outlived countless paper currencies.

Fiat money is based on trust in governments and central banks. Gold, on the other hand, has an inherent, intrinsic value. Tellingly, it is the central banks themselves that are the largest gold holders in the world. They hold the metal as a reserve to support the stability of the financial system. Anyone wishing to protect themselves against the loss of purchasing power and currency risk turns to the big brother of small silver. It is not without reason that popular wisdom calls gold "God's money."

Gold has shone for thousands of years and will never lose that shine. It does not rust, it does not decay, and no one can print more of it at will.

The design: three goats and a New Year's wish

On February 6, 2027, according to the Chinese calendar, the Year of the Goat begins, the eighth of the twelve zodiac signs. Argor-Heraeus brings it to life artfully: an imposing goat with strongly curved horns stands on a rocky peak, flanked left and right by two smaller animals on neighboring cliffs. In the background, mountains rise, a stylized cloud drifts by, and a classic meander band frames the scene. On the left are the characters "三羊开泰" (sān yáng kāi tài). They allude to the ancient New Year's greeting "三阳开泰," which stands for the end of winter, a fortunate new beginning, and prosperity.

On the reverse you see the AH logo of Argor-Heraeus SA, the inscriptions "Switzerland" and "1g Fine Gold 999.9," the hallmark "Melter Assayer," as well as the individual serial number. The red blister with golden fireworks states the weight, fineness, and the signature of the certified assayer. On its back are the inscription "Limited Edition Year of the Goat – 2027" and the same number. The design is the personal touch, the substance is the fine gold.

Lunar bar or coin? A comparison

When it comes to Lunar series, many people first think of the Australian Gold Lunar coins from the Perth Mint. These bullion coins carry a face value and usually start at 1/20 ounce, i.e. around 1.5 grams. The Argor-Heraeus Lunar Goat bar is a step smaller still, making it the most affordable entry point. Compared to the classic 1 g Argor-Heraeus bar without a design, it offers the same fine weight, the same purity, and the same Swiss origin. On top of that, it comes with a yearly theme and a numbered edition.

To be perfectly honest: per gram, a small bar is always somewhat more expensive than a 10 g, 1 oz, or 50 g bar, because minting and packaging costs are spread over less metal. In return, your holdings can be divided as finely as with no other format. It is therefore best used as a building block, combined with larger units.

Give the gift of a genuine gold investment

Is a child being born in 2027, is a christening coming up, or a birthday in the Year of the Goat? Give the gift of real investment gold. This is not a mere souvenir, but an asset that endures for decades and can be passed down from generation to generation. For getting started with physical gold investment, one gram of fine gold is hard to beat.
