Lunar III Goat 2027: Three-Coin Set in Proof Quality – Only 1,000 Sets Worldwide

  • Strictly limited: very low mintage of just 1,000 pieces for the entire world market
  • Growth potential: high appreciation potential due to the strict limitation and the traditionally strong demand for the Lunar series
  • Minting quality: highest possible quality "Proof" (PP) – mirror-like fields, frosted relief
  • Rarity: sought-after collector's coin in a complete trio, enclosed in a display stand
  • Design: three goat generations under a blossoming plum tree, Chinese character for "goat", inscription "GOAT 2027", mint mark "P"
  • Material / fineness: 3.5 ounces or 108.87 grams of fine silver in 999.9/1,000 – with no alloy additive, ideal for the finest detail sharpness
  • Denomination: 1/2 oz, 1 oz and 2 oz with face values of 50 cents, 1 and 2 dollars (total face value 3.50 AUD)
  • Manufacturer: the renowned Perth Mint, founded in 1899
  • Country of origin: Australia – legal tender
  • Scope of delivery: elegant display stand including certificate of authenticity, brand-new condition
  • Investment objective: primarily a collector's product with physical value preservation and inflation hedge; the half ounce is the small, divisible unit for your crisis protection

Some issues can be purchased at leisure. Not this one. Three silver coins in the sizes 1/2, 1 and 2 ounces, all with the same goat design, all in Proof quality, all with the minting year 2027: for the Year of the Goat, the Perth Mint has put together a trio that immediately stands out in the collector world. The reason is the mintage of only 1,000 pieces – a figure that is virtually tiny for a globally distributed issue from Australia.

Three Goats Bring Luck – The Design by Natasha Muhl

The obverse shows a peacefully grazing goat family: an adult animal, a young animal and a kid, set within a rocky landscape. To the right, a blossoming plum tree winds upward, which in China stands for purity, resilience and hope. The composition draws on the lucky formula "Three Goats Bring Luck" – a symbol for the end of winter, the beginning of spring and a successful new start. Added to this are the Chinese character for "goat", the inscription "GOAT 2027" and the traditional mint mark "P" of the minting facility. Because all three sizes carry the same design, an appealing graduated effect emerges within the display stand that is never achieved with individual coins.

Reverse: The Portrait of King Charles III

The value sides feature the effigy of King Charles III designed by Dan Thorne, surrounded by the inscription "CHARLES III AUSTRALIA". Below this are the weight, fineness and face value of the respective silver coin – 1/2 oz 9999 Ag / 50 cents, 1 oz 9999 Ag / 1 dollar, and 2 oz 9999 Ag / 2 dollars.

Proof Quality – Minting Excellence Without Compromise

For the Proof quality, dies and blanks are elaborately prepared, struck multiple times and individually inspected. The result: deep black, mirror-like surfaces from which the frosted relief emerges in striking three-dimensional relief. Please handle only by the edge and with gloves – on these mirrored fields, every fingerprint would be visible. It is precisely this level of care that makes Proof issues so coveted among connoisseurs; bullion coins in Brilliant Uncirculated quality never achieve this effect.

Why the Limitation Makes the Difference

The Perth Mint's Australian Lunar series has been running since 1996 and is among the most successful coin series in the world. The third series began in 2019 with the Pig; the Goat 2027 is the ninth issue of this cycle. While the individual silver Lunar issues are released in significantly higher quantities, this three-coin set remains a genuine rarity. Collectors who complete year after year know the pattern: sets with four-digit mintage limits are barely findable on the secondary market after just a few years. This gives rise to the special appreciation potential that extends far beyond the pure material value.

One design, three sizes, one display stand – and only a thousand collectors worldwide will ever own this combination.

Silver: A Collector's Metal with a Long History

Silver has been a coinage metal for thousands of years and was regarded in many cultures as a sign of wealth and prestige. It is durable, retains its physical properties across generations, and possesses intrinsic value due to its industrial use in electronics, solar and medical technology. Supply is limited, while demand from new technologies tends to rise. And: profits from the sale of silver are generally tax-free in Germany, provided the minimum holding period of one year is observed.

  • Collector value: strictly limited annual issue with numbered certification and clear series logic
  • Material value: 108.87 grams of fine silver, traded worldwide as a commodity and always liquid
  • Wealth transfer: physical precious metal that can be passed down through generations
  • Worth comparing: compared to classics such as Kangaroo, Kookaburra or Koala and to silver bars, the trio scores with its cohesiveness, Proof quality and extremely small mintage
  • Series connection: a fitting addition to other Lunar silver coins – and to the gold coins of the same year of issue

Who This Set Is Especially Worthwhile For

Anyone systematically building up the Lunar Series III cannot pass up this trio. It is equally interesting for beginners who want to combine three sizes, a striking design and a very low mintage in a single purchase. And then there are the birth years: anyone born in 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003 or 2015 was born under the sign of the Goat – 2027 is now added to that list. As a gift for a birth, a milestone anniversary or the Chinese New Year, the display stand is therefore a perfect match. Secure your set while the limited mintage is still available.
