This small gold minting combines great art history with genuine investment gold. However finely the design is executed, the real reason for purchase is the fine gold it contains. The value of this coin is based primarily on its gold content and moves in line with the gold price. Anyone who invests in gold acquires an asset with intrinsic value: a precious metal that has served as a store of value for over 6,000 years and has never once been worth zero.

The design: Botticelli's "Cestello Annunciation"

Sandro Botticelli (1445–1510) is regarded as one of the great masters of the early Italian Renaissance. His panel painting, completed around 1489 and today housed in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, captures the moment the Angel Gabriel announces to Mary the birth of Christ. The minting translates the flowing lines, graceful gestures and reverent calm of the scene into a fine, sculptural relief. Through the open window, the view opens onto a landscape with a castle, bridge and a solitary tree. Beneath the main design, as is customary for this art series, the characteristic Botticelli lettering is displayed. The design provides the personal touch of this edition – the substance remains the pure gold.

Obverse and reverse in detail

The obverse shows the national emblem of the Republic of Chad, framed by the inscriptions "REPUBLIQUE DU TCHAD", the face value "3000 FRANCS CFA" and the fineness declaration "999/1000 FINE GOLD". The reverse features a detailed reproduction of Botticelli's famous painting. The coincard itself additionally states the key numismatic data – weight, fineness and metal content – clearly printed.

Full-value investment gold in a small denomination

Precisely because the fine weight is so small, this minting is well suited as a low-threshold entry point into physical gold investment. Small amounts of gold can be built up step by step, accumulating over the years into a considerable asset. Gold protects against loss of purchasing power, is a globally recognized medium of exchange, and is highly liquid – it can be converted back into cash at any time. As an inflation hedge and as crisis protection, this precious metal has proven itself over millennia. It is not without reason that the world's central banks hold gold as a reserve.

Despite the artistic design and the personal occasion, what you are acquiring here is full-value investment gold – minted fine gold whose value is tied to the gold price. An asset that can also be given as a gift: for a christening, a wedding or a birthday, you are not giving decoration, but a genuine gold investment.

Part of a popular art series

"The Cestello Annunciation" joins a whole series of gold mintings from the Republic of Chad honoring famous paintings – including Botticelli's "The Birth of Venus" and "Primavera", as well as Leonardo da Vinci's "Lady with an Ermine". Anyone combining several designs simultaneously builds up a small, broadly diversified gold holding. Compared to classic bullion coins such as the Krugerrand or Maple Leaf, the amount of gold contained is admittedly much smaller, but the capital outlay per piece is low – ideal for acquiring fine gold regularly and in small steps.

In our gold coins category, you will find this and many other editions made of pure fine gold – tradable at any time, retaining their value, and suitable for long-term wealth building.
