One glance is enough: this ounce is no ordinary bullion strike. On an official issue of the Republic of Liberia with a face value of 20 dollars, sea turtles frolic, their bodies sparkling like faceted rock crystal. The basis is a coin from the Sea Life series, struck in 999.9 fine silver and subsequently artistically enhanced in Germany – in a quantity you could count in a single afternoon.
✔ Why this edition wins over collectors' hearts
The decisive factor is scarcity. The limitation to 100 pieces makes this ounce a genuine rarity. Where only a handful of pieces permanently circulate in the market, few offers meet many collectors wishing to complete a series – and it is precisely from this that the value appreciation potential arises, distinguishing micro-mintages from standard ounces struck by the million. Anyone who collects knows the phenomenon: what is sought after later is always what was never available in bulk. A mintage of only 100 pieces is an exceptionally small figure even among Kettner's exclusive products.
✔ The design: Crystal-clear shells over the coral reef
The design takes you into a glowing underwater world. A large sea turtle – internationally simply called the "Turtle" – moves through deep blue water. Its shell is made up of aquamarine-colored segments that look as if they were cut, and each flipper is structured into fine, mosaic-like facets. On the second side, two younger animals accompany each other over corals in orange, violet and rosé. Rays of light refract in the water, fine bubbles rise. The scene is framed by a wreath of set decorative elements in a crystal look in blue and white; the edge areas, lettering and reeded edge carry a warm gold tone. Surrounding inscriptions such as "1 OZ 9999 FINE SILVER 2026" and "20 DOLLARS" clearly identify the piece.
Add to that the symbolism: hardly any animal is regarded as such a symbol of longevity, constancy and luck as the turtle. A design, therefore, that fits excellently in content with a collector's item made of precious metal – and one that immediately takes center stage in a display case or coin capsule.
✔ Finished in Germany – step by step
The true signature of this edition is created after minting. A German specialist workshop works exclusively for Kettner Edelmetalle and combines several techniques: multicolored design printing, partial gold plating on the edge and contours. Each work step requires precision, as the applied areas must neither run nor overlap. The result is an object that looks less like a coin and more like a piece of jewelry. Important to know: the stated manufacturer refers to the coin itself, not to the subsequent refinement.
Some strikes belong in the safe. This one you want to turn towards the light – and that is exactly the appeal of finished collector's items.

✔ Fine silver as the foundation
Beneath the colorful surface lies a full ounce of fine silver. Silver has accompanied mankind for thousands of years as a coinage metal, is considered a proven store of value and possesses intrinsic value thanks to its broad industrial use in electronics, solar and medical technology. Supply is naturally limited, the metal is durable and liquid worldwide. For tax purposes: profits from the sale are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year. Classic silver coins are often purchased for inflation hedging or as crisis protection – with this edition, however, the collector's aspect is clearly in the foreground.
✔ Compared to other finished ounces
Anyone who, alongside classics like Australian Lunar, China Panda or Britannia, also collects finished design strikes knows the difference: partially gilded zodiac or hologram editions usually appear in mintages of 250 to several thousand pieces. The Crystal Turtle plays in a league of its own here. The premium over a plain bullion ounce is correspondingly higher – but in return you receive a piece with a one-of-a-kind character that pure bullion goods can never offer. And the material value of the fine silver ounce remains preserved as a solid foundation regardless.
Secure your example while the small quantity lasts – experience shows that such editions sell out quickly. You can find more fantastic-looking and elaborately designed exclusive collector's coins here.
