A christening gift built to last: three grams of Swiss precious metal
- Investment goal: Physical silver effectively shields your savings against loss of purchasing power and the consequences of coming crises, whether in the form of handy silver bars or as silver CombiBars with perforated break-off points.
- Value preservation: For thousands of years, the white precious metal has proven itself as a tangible store of value that helps preserve the real substance of wealth across generations.
- Protection: Rising prices, looming recession, record government debt? It is precisely in such times that precious metal shows its strength, as a solid inflation hedge and reliable crisis protection.
- Origin: produced by Valcambi SA in Balerna, Switzerland
- Contents: 3 minted bars of 1 g each, fineness 999/1,000, total weight 3 g fine silver, encapsulated, with certificate of authenticity
A christening is a promise. Parents, godparents and family welcome a child into their community and wish it support for a whole lifetime. What could be more fitting than putting that wish into something that itself provides support? The 3 x 1g silver bars "Zur Taufe" (For the Christening) combine a lovingly designed congratulatory gift with genuine precious metal: three Brilliant Uncirculated bars of fine silver 999, securely encapsulated. A keepsake that retains its significance long beyond the celebration day.
Fish, anchor, blessings: a design full of symbolic power
On the front, the lettering "Zur Taufe" runs in petrol blue across bright, rustic wood. Below it, the three small bars lie side by side, each stamped with "1 g SILVER 999" and the Valcambi mark "ESSAYEUR FONDEUR". Two wooden fish in pink and turquoise frame the image. It is the Ichthys, one of the oldest symbols of Christianity. Scattered turquoise shell fragments add a fresh, maritime lightness.
Turning the capsule over reveals a paper boat set against soft lilac, with a wooden anchor in front. Since early Christian times, the anchor has stood for hope and confidence. Above it, in white handwriting, it reads: "Segenswünsche" (Blessings). The image needs few words and suits both girls and boys.
Silver for christenings: a tradition, reimagined
Silver christening gifts have a long tradition in many families, from christening cutlery to christening cups. These gifts were often kept for a lifetime, sparking memories with every glance. The three bars pick up on this idea, but rely entirely on pure bullion metal. Instead of a functional object, the child receives high-quality substance, with weight and fineness clearly stamped. Whether given shortly after birth, at the christening, or on later anniversaries: gifts like these retain their character.
Valcambi: Swiss precision since 1961
Behind the bars stands Valcambi SA of Balerna in Ticino. The refinery was founded in 1961 and today ranks among the world's leading precious metal processors. Valcambi is listed on the LBMA's Good Delivery List for gold and silver, an internationally recognized mark of quality. The company became particularly well known for the CombiBar, a divisible bar that combines flexibility and precision.
Why silver is especially convincing in uncertain times
Paper money depends on trust in governments and central banks. Silver does not. It has an intrinsic value derived from its physical properties, and for centuries it served as a coinage and monetary metal in countless cultures, from the ancient drachma to the thaler. Add to this strong demand from industry. Electronics, solar technology and medical technology can hardly do without the metal, while supply remains limited. This is why silver is traded worldwide as a commodity and can be quickly converted back into cash when needed.
Precious metals have outlasted countless paper currencies throughout history. Anyone who gives a child silver today gives them a piece of this lasting stability to carry forward.
Small denominations in particular show their strength when currencies fluctuate. Each individual gram can be exchanged or sold without having to break up the entire gift. This creates flexibility in times when it matters most.
Your advantages at a glance
- Three individual 1 g bars instead of one large piece, offering flexibility for a later sale
- Fineness of 999/1,000 from Swiss production
- Encapsulated and with certificate of authenticity, protected against fingerprints and scratches
- Silver is durable and permanently retains its physical properties
- Under current German law, profits from the sale of physical silver by private individuals are tax-free after a holding period of more than one year
Gram bars, CombiBar, or gold after all?
Anyone focused purely on the lowest price per gram will opt for larger formats such as ounce or kilogram bars. But for a christening gift, other things matter more: personal design, a festive presentation, and the joy of unwrapping it. This is where the 3 x 1g silver bars shine. Silver is also significantly more affordable than gold, allowing godparents with a smaller budget to give a genuine precious metal gift as well. For something a little more refined, Valcambi offers the same concept as a 3g gold bar "Zur Taufe" in 999.9 fine gold.
A companion for a whole lifetime
Perhaps the capsule will sit safely tucked away in a drawer for decades. Perhaps it will become the foundation for a personal precious metals collection that the child will later discover and build upon. In any case, these three silver bars will one day serve as a reminder of a special day and of the people who thought of a child's future. A piece like this can be passed down from generation to generation.
