The constellation in the sky
The faintest constellation of the zodiac.
Only six of its stars are brighter than the fifth magnitude. At its centre lies the star cluster Praesepe, the Beehive Cluster.
That the Beehive Cluster consists of many faint stars was first recognised by Galileo with the telescope. He made out about 40 stars in it. It stands highest in the spring sky, in March.

The path of the sun
Twelve sections of a year.
Cancer is the fourth of the twelve sections.
Seen from the Earth, the sun travels once around the sky against the stars over the course of a year, along the ecliptic.
The signs divide this path into twelve equal sections of 30 degrees each, counted from the vernal equinox point, the position of the sun at the start of spring. The constellations of the same names differ in size.
Because the Earth’s axis slowly turns like a spinning top, once in about 26,000 years, the vernal equinox point has moved by about 30 degrees since the Greek Hipparchus. Signs and constellations are therefore offset today by about one constellation.
For more than 2,500 years
In cuneiform, in books, on clocks.
- BabylonThe cuneiform series MUL.APIN, preserved in copies from the 7th century BC onwards, names 17 constellations along the ecliptic.
- PtolemyAround AD 150, Ptolemy gathered more than a thousand stars into 48 constellations in the Almagest. At its core, our system today is his.
- Très Riches HeuresIn the book of hours of the Duke of Berry, now in Chantilly, each month’s picture shows the two zodiac signs of the month at the top.
- PragueThe astronomical clock has stood on the Old Town Hall since 1410, today with calendar, zodiac and clock.

Investment Gold Under the Sign of Water
The zodiac sign Cancer gives the coin its face. Its value is determined by the metal. Each specimen consists of 0.5 g of fine gold with a fineness of 999.9/1,000; gross weight and fine weight are both 0.5 g. The value is therefore primarily based on the current daily gold price. This is precisely what makes this minting a fully-fledged physical gold investment: tradable worldwide, resalable at any time, and ideal for building wealth gram by gram.
Add to this the very low mintage. Only 1,000 coins of this year of issue are being minted. Given the great popularity of zodiac designs, such a quantity is quickly sold out. The limitation acts as an additional factor for the value appreciation potential, with the fine gold forming the stable foundation.
The Design: Precision Down to the Claw Tips
Obverse: the Crab Between Stars and Waves
At the centre rises a crab, its shell, leg joints and jagged claws worked out in fine detail. Beneath it, stylised waves break, referring to the element of water, to which Cancer is astrologically assigned. Above it are the lettering "KREBS" and the Cancer symbol. A dark, mirrored ring bears all twelve zodiac signs, connected by sparkling stars. At the lower edge, the inscription "0.5 g 9999 FINE GOLD" documents weight and purity.
Reverse: Zodiac, Sun and the Coat of Arms of Liberia
The value side shows a horoscope wheel with twelve fields. At its centre shines a sun in the form of a compass rose, in the middle of which sits the national coat of arms of Liberia. Above are the face value "25 DOLLARS" and the year of issue "2027", below "REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA". In the Proof (PP) finish, the contrast between the mirrored background and the raised relief appears especially brilliant.
The coincard takes up the theme. On the front, the crab glows as a golden constellation against a night sky, along with the period "21 June – 22 July" and the traits "Sensitive · Caring · Emotional". On the back is the motto "Twelve Signs – Infinite Stories".
0.5 g or 1/200 Ounce? A Direct Comparison
The zodiac family at Kettner also includes gold coins of 1/200 ounce (around 0.16 g), with a mintage of 5,000 pieces per sign. The 0.5 g edition stands out clearly from these:
- More metal: around three times as much fine gold per coin
- Smaller mintage: only 1,000 pieces instead of 5,000
- Same quality: likewise 999.9/1,000 fine gold in Proof finish
- Flexible: a small denomination that can be resold individually
With small denominations, the premium per gram is naturally higher than with an ounce coin. Those wishing to invest a large sum at once will therefore tend to opt for larger units. Those, on the other hand, who wish to invest in gold regularly and with a smaller budget, benefit precisely from this fine divisibility.
Gold: 6,000 Years of Trust
Gold is the oldest currency in the world. Even in ancient Egypt it served as a benchmark in trade, later it moved goods along the Silk Road, and in the 19th and 20th centuries it formed the backbone of entire currency systems through the gold standard. Paper money has come and gone, gold has remained. It possesses an intrinsic value, has never been worthless, and cannot be multiplied at will. It is not without reason that central banks are among the largest holders of gold in the world.
Many investors also value the precious metal as an inflation hedge and as crisis protection. For investors in Germany, there is an additional benefit: profits from the sale of physical gold are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year.
Give Genuine Investment Gold as a Present
Is a child born in July? Does a friend celebrate a birthday under the sign of Cancer? Then give genuine investment gold as a present. Despite the personal occasion, you are acquiring fully-fledged investment gold here: minted fine gold whose value is based on the gold price. Not just a souvenir, but an asset that can be passed down through generations.
Small amounts of gold add up over the years to considerable wealth. This rarity made of pure fine gold is a good start for that.
