Some coins simply need to be held in your hand. The collector's coin "Zodiac Libra" is one of them: 40 millimeters of warm copper-red, a relief of almost lavish depth – and a mintage of only 1,000 pieces worldwide. Anyone who collects knows immediately what this number means.

A design with weight and history

At the center of the obverse sits a mighty beam scale, the classic symbol of the air sign. The two richly decorated scale pans hang from delicate chains, each link individually crafted. Behind it opens a starry sky divided into a dark and a light hemisphere – day and night, calm and motion. Along the lower edge, ornamental cloud waves surge in, embedding the zodiac sign of Libra. Around the rim one reads "LIBRA", "GRACE & HARMONY" as well as the series' guiding motto: "The stars point the way, but fate lies in your hands."

The reverse is no less opulent. Four quadrants depict the four elements: gathering clouds for air, jagged mountain ranges for earth, blazing flames for fire, and crashing waves for water. In the center, sun and moon merge into a double face. Along the inner rim, all twelve zodiac signs are lined up, accompanied by the inscription "TWELVE SIGNS • FOUR ELEMENTS • ONE UNIVERSE". The face value "ONE DOLLAR", the designation "Republic of Liberia" and "1 OZ 999 FINE COPPER" complete the picture.

Proof: the finest class of minting

The Proof finish is the most elaborate refinement a mint can deliver. Multiple polishing of the dies, several striking passes per blank, and handling exclusively with gloves. The result: mirror-like surfaces from which the matted relief truly stands out. With copper, this contrast is especially appealing, as the reddish metal refracts light more warmly than silver. A certificate of authenticity is included.

Why copper wins over collectors' hearts

Copper, the "red gold", is the most accessible of all coin metals. Especially in the USA, countless copper rounds – i.e. copper medallions – have been minted for decades with the most varied designs, ranging from historical dollar replicas to modern fantasy motifs. This variety of designs is unparalleled. Anyone starting out with copper coins or copper bars first develops a feel for the tactile quality, weight, and appearance of a coin before moving on to larger acquisitions.

The typical copper buyer is therefore a classic collector: someone who enjoys building their own collection, completing series, and comparing designs. Unlike most US rounds, which are issued in the AVDP ounce of 28.35 g, this edition brings a full troy ounce of 31.10 g to the scale – and as a coin with a face value, it carries an official character that a medallion cannot possess.

What is created in small numbers will sooner or later find more interested buyers than there are pieces available. This is exactly where the appeal of a very low mintage lies.

Rarity with prospects

The limitation to 1,000 pieces worldwide makes this coin a true rarity. Zodiac designs are among the most emotional themes in numismatics – everyone has their own sign, everyone knows their birth month. For those born under Libra (September 23 to October 22), the coin is a gift that needs no explanation. For collectors, it is a building block of a twelve-part series whose completion becomes more challenging with each passing year. This interplay of strict limitation and broad demand is the basis for the potential for value appreciation of this issue.

Whether as an entry point into the world of collector's coins, as a thematic addition alongside the silver and gold editions of the same series, or as a personal gift: this copper coin in Proof quality combines the art of minting, astrology, and genuine scarcity into a piece that one enjoys looking at again and again.
