1 g Gold China Panda 2021 – China's smallest gold investment in pocket format

  • Investment goal: Physical bullion coin with inflation hedge, value preservation, and – well below a quarter ounce – convenient crisis protection in a compact format.
  • Design: Two pandas among bamboo – the annually changing reverse design of the Gold China Panda series.
  • Material / fineness: 1 g fine gold, fineness 999/1,000 (Au .999) – pure, unalloyed investment gold.
  • Manufacturer: Minted by the renowned China Mint.
  • Country of origin: China.

With the 1 g Gold China Panda 2021, you hold real gold in your hand – tiny in size, but full of substance. This gold coin is minted by the China Mint and carries a face value of 10 Yuan. Its actual value, however, lies not in the stamped face value, but in one gram of pure fine gold, whose price directly follows the global gold price. This is exactly what makes the small panda a fully-fledged investment product: substance instead of symbolism, fine gold instead of a mere design.

The 2021 design: two pandas in the bamboo

The design side shows two pandas amid bamboo: the larger bear sits on the right and looks to the left, while the smaller one looks up from below. Above the bamboo is the weight and fineness inscription "1g Au .999", below it the face value "10元". The design side of this series has changed year after year since its launch in 1982 – the 2021 year of issue is therefore clearly identifiable and unmistakable. The value side remains steeped in tradition and unchanged: it shows the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests at Beijing's Temple of Heaven, the inscription "People's Republic of China" in Chinese characters, as well as the year 2021. The annually new panda design is the series' personal touch – but the reason for buying it remains the fine gold it contains.

Material and fineness: one gram of pure fine gold

The 1 g Gold China Panda consists of 999/1,000 fine gold and measures only about 10 mm in diameter – hardly larger than a fingernail, yet still a tangible asset. Since 2016, China has minted the Panda series in the metric gram system instead of ounces; the 1-gram gold coin thus replaced the former 1/20 ounce coin, whose diameter was still just under 14 mm. Despite its small size, the gold content is precisely defined and always transparently traceable via the gold price. Purer investment gold is hardly to be found – each piece contains exactly one gram of pure precious metal.

The Panda compared to other gold coins

Within the large family of gold coins, the China Panda holds a special position. While classics such as the Krugerrand are minted as a 22-carat alloy, the Panda consists of pure 999 fine gold. Its greatest appeal compared to permanently unchanging designs such as the Maple Leaf or Vienna Philharmonic: the design of the Panda series changes every year, making each year of issue unmistakable. As a 1-gram denomination, the Panda is also one of the most affordable entry points into physical gold – significantly more accessible than a full ounce. The disadvantage of small units, a proportionally higher premium on the pure material value, is offset by the enormous flexibility and easy divisibility when reselling later.

Why the small gold panda is worthwhile as an investment

  • Substance: one gram of pure fine gold as a tangible, enduring asset.
  • Value preservation: the value is directly linked to the gold price and protects against loss of purchasing power.
  • Small steps: an ideal entry point for building wealth gradually and systematically.
  • Liquidity: known and recognized worldwide, resalable at any time.
  • Holding period: profits from private sales are generally tax-free after one year.

As small as the coin is, its uses are just as versatile: those who regularly acquire individual grams build up a considerable physical gold reserve over the years – small amounts of gold add up over time into real wealth. The Panda also makes an excellent gift – only here you're not giving a souvenir, but real investment gold for a christening, birth, or birthday: an asset that lasts. In our gold coins category, you'll find the Panda alongside other classics and can build your gold investment exactly as you wish.

Gold is the oldest currency in the world – for over 6,000 years a proven store of value that has never reached a value of zero.

Gold has an inherent, intrinsic value, is scarce, and is tradable worldwide. It is no coincidence that central banks are among the largest holders of gold in the world – a clear signal of confidence in the yellow precious metal. The 1 g Gold China Panda 2021 brings exactly this confidence into a compact format: as a building block for diversification, for long-term wealth building across generations, and as protection against inflation and currency risks.
